An unconventional miniature artist, Yug is enhancing his profile as well as that of his country by attempting to promote his work both domestically and abroad.

Yug Prasad is a miniature artist from Bundi, Rajasthan. He has been working in the miniature art field for the  last twenty-two years.

Yug uses the Rajasthani Bundi style of painting. He has experienced many highs and lows over the course of his 22-year journey and has experimented with many different art styles.

Recalling his childhood, Yug says Bundi is his motherland, and his ancestral home was close to Bundi Rajmahal, so he used to visit the palace frequently. He was greatly impressed by the Bundi-style painting in the palace, which later served as his inspiration. He spent four years studying the intricacies of painting with one of his Bundi style teachers to acquire this style. Yug has done  a B.A. and an M.A. in addition to his painting education. But as he was more inclined towards painting,  he decided to make it his profession.

Remembering the struggle of his initial days, Yug says that because Bundi is a small district, there were little opportunities for business. Because of this, his father opposed turning his hobby of miniature painting into a business. But he decided to stick with this field because he saw his future in it. He took part in and won awards at numerous painting competitions. Then gradually, as his identity gained ground, his father began to feel confident and proud of his choice. He feels proud that his artistic experimentation has won accolades for his family, his city, and himself.

Speaking of his accomplishments, Yug mentions that he has presented his work at numerous exhibitions both domestically and internationally. He sent his paintings via the postal service after consulting with some French artists, and an exhibition of his work was held there as well. As part of recent artistic experiments, he has started painting portraits of foreign tourists in traditional art styles, and the viewers have responded favorably to them. Additionally, he turns their travel experiences in India into a series of brief travel comics, which is a popular draw for tourists. For the French embassy, Yug created cover pages for many books. He has also received a prize in a competition organized by Rajasthan Lalit Kala Academy, Jaipur.

Yug advises newcomers to keep their promises if they want their  company to grow.

When questioned about his regrets, Yug says he feels that he has developed into a skilled painter but could not become a successful businessman. He hasn't been able to charge the same price for his paintings as the major handicraft dealers do. Due to this weakness, he has never been able to support himself financially.

When asked about his role models, Yug says he looks up to the Almighty as his role model. Secondly, he still adheres to his guru's teachings and continues to pick up new knowledge from him.

Yug says his only hobby is learning about electronic gadgets and how to use them. After only one month of learning how to use a computer, he created his own website and posted his photographs on it. He is eager to learn how to use these tools because he knows how technology can advance his career. His second love is video games, which he uses to improve his grasp of 3D designs.

To reduce his stress, Yug listens to bhajans and starts his day with them only. He also enjoys watching animation movies and spending time with his kid.

Yug’s life mantra  is -Go with the flow and keep trying; God will undoubtedly reward you.
