Yashveer Gurjar, co-founder of YF2 Dance Academy, transitioned from a cricket captain to a dedicated dance choreographer, establishing a successful dance academy focused on wedding choreography. Yashveer advises aspiring dancers to balance their passion with practical career considerations and emphasizes the importance of dedication and patience.

Yashveer Gurjar, the director and senior choreographer at YF2 Dance Academy, Jodhpur, has dedicated ten years to the dance industry. Initially, Yashveer was a cricket player, captaining the Rajasthan Royals Under-19 team. However, he lost his passion for cricket and stepped away from the sport due to personal reasons.

Yashveer then found a dance partner from his cricket team who was usually seen making some dance moves. Yashveer learned to dance from him for six months. With no background in or knowledge of dance, Yashveer decided to use YouTube as his dance trainer. Later, he realized the importance of dance training and took sessions at the Terence Lewis Dance Academy for 3 months.

Reflecting on the evolution of the dance field, Yashveer notes that a few years ago, dance enthusiasts were very few as compared to now, where we find one dance in every nook and corner of a city.  After going to learn dance in Mumbai, he felt very motivated about his field and the scope of the dance industry.

He decided to start a business in this industry and collaborated with a friend to establish a dance academy together. They named it ‘YF2 Dance Academy’ and also promoted it on various platforms. In 2017, they achieved a blue tick on Google.  Focused on growing his business, Yashveer managed promotions, choreography, and event contracts. Today, his dance academy has a team of ten members who work to deliver the best coaching in dance classes and wedding choreography.

Born in Alwar and raised in Jodhpur, Yashveer attended Modern School in Jodhpur. He discovered his passion for dance early and dropped out of college in his first year to pursue it as a career.

Sharing about the pandemic experience, Yashveer shares that since many of his students were kids of police officers, he could very easily provide home tuition to his students. Hence, he could differentiate himself from the other dance teachers in the city. This approach allowed him to run his academy smoothly, even during the second wave, without resorting to online classes. According to him, dance can be enjoyed and learned well only when we teach it in person.

Dance choreographer Rajveer believes that everybody faces some or other struggles, as it is an inevitable part of life. He believes that one can achieve success only after facing some struggles in life. Talking about struggles, Yashveer says that when he joined dance classes, his seniors made fun of them. He says that the dance industry has become too competitive over time. But his continuous dedication helped him cope with this time and slowly attain success in his career.

When he started his dance academy, many seniors doubted his ability to succeed. In Jodhpur, usually, the dance academy runners had their own groups to run the academy, but it was not the same in Rajveer’s case. He solely focused on the wedding choreographies, and thus he was able to grow eventually. He looks up to his friend Feroz, who co-founded the academy with him, admiring his facial expressions and dancing style. Additionally, he considers Ganesh Acharya, a well-known Indian choreographer and director, as his role model in the dance field.

Yashveer advises aspiring dancers not to rely solely on dance as a profession, comparing it to losing a hand or leg in an accident—it's uncertain and unpredictable. He points out that nowadays even 5-year-old kids participate in dance shows, thus the rising competition in the field.

On the other hand, he recommends people use their time properly and work passionately in whatever field they desire to make a career in. He adds that dancers should utilize their time practicing as much as possible and be patient to get the desired results.

Yashveer's goal is to become the best at wedding choreography. In his free time, he enjoys making TikTok reels and catching up with friends in the evenings.
