Yashi looks at life through the lens of art. Her creativity and artistic abilities are what feeds her soul and connects her with herself through visuals, poetry, and writing.

Yashi Verma is a writer, artist, and poet who is currently pursuing law. She has been writing since her school days and considers writing as a medium to express herself.

Talking about her childhood, Yashi says she was a shy and introverted kid. Inspired by literature taught in school, Yashi began reading novels and soon found her solace in expressing herself through writing. She also started rhyming words and creating poetry of her own. Yashi also tried expressing herself through self-portraits and visuals, for which she found social media the best medium. After receiving acceptance from different people, Yashi gained confidence in her writing day by day. She says her teachers also saw great potential in her.

Yashi says that she decided to hide her passion from her parents because of the fear that they wouldn’t let her pursue it. Another challenge she faced was from the already established artists who have great connections, which she found difficult to break.

Yashi shares that she is also inspired by Urdu and Hindustani poetry. She is a big fan of Sahir Ludhianvi, Meer Taqi Meer, and Ghalib.

Born and brought up in Delhi, Yashi has lived in the city since her childhood. She grew up with her grandmother, hearing her folk stories in an environment full of chaos and children playing around in small colonies. Yashi also remembers feeding kittens along with her brother. They often became quiet when their parents entered the house.

Yashi is also fond of watching films and has explored regional cinema like those of France, Iran and the like. Some beautiful scenes from various films often get stuck in her head, and she enjoys working around them. Yashi usually spends most of her time in her room, playing with the shadows and lights in her own way. The essence of art always stays with her and comes out in different creative and aesthetic ways. Yashi is inspired by the poem "And Still I Rise" by Maya Angelou, which she finds really powerful and motivating.

Talking about her mistakes, Yashi says she stands by her motto of not regretting things in her life. However, she feels that owing to her laziness, she has laid-back on many opportunities that she should have quickly grabbed.

Yashi feels that today’s youth often struggle to find a balance between their passion and what is accepted by society. She adds that with the increasing charm of social media, youth often have the urge to pursue something, which they refrain from due to societal pressures. On that note, Yashi advises the youth that they need not leave one thing to pursue another, and that they can do multiple things at once.

In her free time, Yashi likes to record herself dancing. She is an avid reader and also enjoys watching films.
