Dr Vivek Jain is an Associate Professor at Techno India NJR Institute of Technology, Department of Electronics and Communication since 2010. Working here he has witnessed various developments at his institute in the last ten years in terms of Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Augmented and Virtual Reality, thus meeting the requirements of Industry 4.0 and preparing students for the same. Prior to Techno he also worked at Geetanjali Institute for two years.
Born in Udaipur, Vivek completed his schooling at Guru Nanak Public School and BTech from Geetanjali Institute of Technology. Thereafter, he did his MTech in Digital Communication and PhD from the College of Technology and Engineering.
Vivek always wanted to be in the industry and had academia as his second option, but owing to family circumstances he decided to be in the education field. However, he feels good to have got both industry exposure and academic growth working at his present institution.
Vivek admires Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and looks up to him for his simplicity, hard work and punctuality. He feels that as per the current market scenario and to attain financial stability, the Indian education system does not suffice owing to a less practical approach and dearth of skill development. Vivek shares that it is important for students to be market-ready and stand as per industry requirements. However, he adds that now steps are being taken to improve the same with hackathons being conducted and the advent of Atal Innovation Labs in schools helping students to develop their skill sets.
Talking about the scope in Computer Science and Engineering, Vivek shares that a collective approach to design products is required incorporating all branches of mechanical, civil and electronics engineering. He suggests that one should decide their branch on the basis of one’s passion and identify their skills whether it’s programming or hardware. He adds that all branches have chances of equal growth and one should be able to identify their interests whether it is in building construction or playing with circuits and decide their branch accordingly. For students who are only interested in coding, they can go for Computer Science, shares Vivek. In his leisure time, Vivek likes to spend time with his family, play cricket and watch political news.
His success mantra is to believe in yourself and be a combination of hard work and smart work to be truly successful. He believes that it is important for the youth to update themselves with new technologies in order to save time and fight the current challenges.
