Vishu Arora is an Assistant Professor at NIFT in the Master of Design Space Department. She has been into teaching for the last twenty years and has worked in the textile industry since then.
Vishu was born and brought up in Patiala, Punjab. She did her education in Punjab itself. Thereafter she started working and moved out to Gujarat. After working there for a few years, she moved to Panchkula and is currently based there.
Recalling her childhood memories, Vishu says that she had a quite simple and happy childhood. She did her schooling at St. Xavier’s School, Bathinda, and graduated from Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana. She did her masters from Kurukshetra University and her Ph.D. from Jaipur.
When asked how she got into teaching, Vishu says that she is a teacher by choice. She started exploring job opportunities from an early age and always wanted to be in a profession that can provide her with a good work-life balance. After exploring and consulting people, she finally got connected to teaching and started to work on her calling, she says.
Talking about the challenges she has faced, Vishu says that she had to stay away from her family from a very early age for her education. She says that she always faced challenges in taking her decisions as she did not have a guiding hand around. Vishu further says that it was difficult for her to cope with the environment when she moved to different states for her job, however, she was able to manage everything with time passing by.
While talking about her mistakes, Vishu says that mistakes are a part of life, it's just the nature of the mistake that changes as you grow up. She says that she has made many minor and major mistakes in her overall journey but it has given her a good learning experience and helped her grow gradually.
Speaking about her accomplishments, Vishu says that overcoming the challenges has been like an achievement for her. Having good friends in the different stages of her journey is a major accomplishment for her. About her professional achievements, she says that she has written four books related to the textile industry.
Regarding her role models, Vishu says that role models change with age, however, her mother has been her biggest role model to date who has taught her the values of life. She has also been very much inspired by a Padmashree Awardee Professor B.N.Goswami. She says that his writings have inspired her a lot. Besides, her own mistakes have been her biggest inspirations.
In her free time, Vishu loves drawing and traveling.
To attain mental peace, Vishu prefers maintaining her smile curve and channelizing her energy into something productive.
Vishu says that she closely follows the lines said by Guru Nanak Dev, i.e., “Naam Japo, Kirat Karo, Vand Chhako” which means; praying, having faith in God, believing in sharing, and fulfilling your purpose of life with integrity.
