Vishambhar Dayal Sharma is working as Deputy Director of the Agriculture Department in Dholpur, Rajasthan. He is entrusted to connect the farmers to the policies and programs designed for them by the central and state governments.
Vishambhar says that there are many policies in action by the government for the welfare of the farmers in the state. He shares that by assessing the quality of the soil of farmers’ lands, they are being provided fertilizers to increase their yields. Besides, under the PM Krishi Sinchayi Yojana, the agriculture department is stressing on the conservation and preservation of water. Many water conservation ponds or tanks are being built so that the farmers can continue their farming activities during draughts. The government also funds the farmers to build farm ponds for water conservation.
He informs us that the government is also providing funds for incentivizing the mechanization of farming. Under the Krishi Vikas Yojana, organic farming is also being promoted among farmers. Furthermore, the government is also providing funds for the fencing of farmers’ fields to prevent stray animals from entering their fields. He also adds that the Fasal Bima Yojana is also there to protect the farmers against their losses due to natural calamities.
Talking about the Covid pandemic, Vishambhar says that the pandemic affected all the sectors adversely. He acknowledges the fact that despite the challenges thrown by the pandemic at them, farmers continued sowing and harvesting crops and maintained uninterrupted supplies of essential grains, pulses, etc. He says the government also allowed the import and export of grains, pulses, etc, under the Essential Commodities Act.
Vishambhar says that to be able to connect the farmers to the policies framed for them by the government requires a lot of experience. He says there are a lot of formalities and documentation to be done to decide whether a farmer meets the eligibility criteria to benefit from a certain policy.
Vishambhar considers the Agriculture Minister who played an indispensable role in taking the agriculture department to newer heights as his role model.
His success mantra is continuous and precise monitoring of the government's policies for farmers.
