Never stop learning music; it is an ongoing journey.
Never stop learning music; it is an ongoing journey.
Vishal Mishra is a sitar artist from the Banaras Gharana.
Recalling his childhood, Vishal says he feels fortunate to share that in a time when kids used to play outdoors, he used to hum music along with his harmonium. He has learned the nitty-gritty of playing the sitar from his father, who also happens to be his guru. Quite often, Vishal wondered why he was made to work so hard at a young age, but years later, he feels grateful to his father and music gurus who fueled the artist within him.
Talking about his role models, Vishal says he considers the late Padma Bhushan Pandit Rajan Mishra his ideal, whose music has had an influential impact on him.
When asked about his mistakes, Vishal says he feels that being inclined more towards performances than learning at an early age was his mistake. He laments not focusing more on learning music in his early days, which he later rectified by spending more time with his music gurus.
Vishal advises the youth to understand if their career path is meant for them, and if yes, they should know if they want to pursue it or not.
In his message to aspiring musicians, Vishal says that one needs to keep practising and learning music all their lives.
