Vimla Shrimali is a senior tourist guide at the Pratap Gaurav Kendra, Udaipur.
Vimla has been working as a tourist guide since 2016. She manages and supervises the tourists and takes care of the financial backend of the museum, including the supervision of ticket sellers and ticket collectors. She talks about the tour itinerary in detail and what the tourists can experience at Pratap Gaurav Kendra, Udaipur.
According to Vimla, tourists should be taught about the life history of the valiant King Maharana Pratap because this is a misinterpreted part of history, and people must be aware of the truth about the victory of Maharana Pratap over his foes through evidence of his victory in this museum.
Vimla suggests that aspiring tourist guides must be curious about learning something new to excel in this field. If someone wants to learn about tourist guiding, they should observe other guides and learn from them. She says the tourists always expect a guide to take them around and communicate in such a manner that they can enjoy the whole tour. Hence, Vimla feels that a guide must have a good understanding and knowledge of Rajasthan's history. One should have a good grasp of the English and Hindi languages to converse well with the tourists.
When asked to compare education and experience, Vimla says that both play an integral role in a person’s life. Vimla completed her 12th grade before marriage and later went on an educational break for seven years. Later, she pursued a B.A., an RSCIT, and a PGDCA Diploma in Computers. Giving her example, she says that she did many versatile jobs like peon, teacher, and health counsellor. Eventually, she learned many essential qualities, like confidence and liveliness. Vimla believes that the more you keep working, the better and richer your experience will be.
