Vimla, having overcome all the challenges in life, is managing two of her businesses confidently and with an audacious demeanour.

Born and brought up in Bhilwara, Vimla Agarwal did her schooling in her hometown and her BA from a government college. Thereafter she got married and shifted to Udaipur and completed her MA from MB College back in 1964. Since her father-in-law passed away, Vimla carried out her family business starting in 1966.

During those times even though women did not usually indulge in business, Vilma handled her newspaper business from her home. In the year 1973, she came across an advertisement by Indian Oil and appeared for an interview round in Ajmer. This is when she was allotted a petrol pump and she turned out to be the first lady to have it back then. Vimla has two sons who look after the petrol pump and she manages the accounts section from home.

Her husband being in a government job with frequent transfers, Vimla used to stay alone managing kids as well as the family business which was quite challenging for her. There was also a time when Vimla had no vehicle of her own and used to travel by bus. She shares that her mother was very strong and the same values have been inculcated in her. Vimla says that her daughters are doing well in their careers and also managing their family life well and that all of her children have studied in an English medium school.

Vimla believes that one should study hard and work harder with full dedication to pursue one’s goals in life. She urges the youth to identify their interests and capabilities and work in that direction. Vimla says that the youth should never kill their own desires and take responsibility for their success.

Besides work, Vimla feels that one should also pursue their hobby. Though she never gets enough time to watch movies, she likes to spend her Sundays outside with her children. Vimla shares that there has not been a single day when she found things difficult or got tired in the process. She has always been energetic and as such never felt troubled in life.
