Vikram Pratap Singh Devra, a dedicated rifle and pistol shooting coach from Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, has been nurturing aspiring shooters since 2015.
He specializes in the 10-meter air rifle and pistol events, offering training to students as young as 8 years old and adults up to the age of 50. Vikram’s journey in the sport is a testament to perseverance, skill, and resilience.
Born into a humble family, Vikram Singh was raised by his mother, who worked hard to provide him with a better life. He received his primary education in his village before moving to Udaipur for higher studies, completing his schooling at B.N. Public School and Guru Nanak School, followed by a college degree from B.N. College, Udaipur.
One of Vikram’s biggest achievements was qualifying for the national shooting tournament in 2016. He aims to represent India on national and international platforms, debunking the myth that shooting is an elite and unaffordable sport. He advises newcomers to seek expert guidance and not be discouraged by misconceptions.
Singh also met with a severe accident that left his right arm paralysed, yet he found the courage to continue his passion for shooting, competing as a para-athlete. His unwavering determination inspires his students, who gain confidence watching their coach train alongside them, embodying the resilience he teaches. Despite facing numerous challenges, including limited resources and equipment, he trained himself and proved that with dedication, financial constraints can be overcome.
Singh’s journey into shooting wasn’t easy. He initially trained in rifle shooting for four years before transitioning to pistol shooting. He recalls his first tournament experience, where nerves almost got the better of him. However, with his coach’s encouragement, he overcame his fears and secured a spot in the state championship. He believes that success is rooted in hard work and persistence.
Vikram has endured significant personal hardships, including the loss of his mother, whom he regards as his greatest role model. Her strength and sacrifices continue to serve as his guiding light.
He also draws inspiration from historical figures like Maharana Pratap, Rana Sanga, and Bhagat Singh, as well as the teachings of Swami Vivekananda. His life mantra, “Forget the past and embrace each new day,” reflects his positive outlook.
When feeling low, Vikram finds solace in visiting the Eklingji Mahadev temple, where he meditates and seeks peace.
Vikram Pratap Singh emphasizes road safety by sharing his experience of a bike accident in which a helmet saved his life. He urges everyone to be responsible on the road, noting that a single mistake can have life-altering consequences.
