With 17 years of experience, Vikas is a dynamic pain specialist with a focus on non-surgical interventions for disc problems, joint pain, neuropathic pain, and cancer symptoms.

Dr. Vikas Tyagi is a pain management consultant at the Delhi Pain Management Centre in Ghaziabad. He is one of the pioneers in the field of pain management in India and has more than seventeen years of experience in the same. He specializes in spine and knee pain, shoulder pain, migraines, sports injuries, and all other chronic pain problems.

Vikas received his school education at Etah in Uttar Pradesh. After his schooling, he took admission in the MBBS program at the SMS government medical college, Jodhpur.  He completed his postgraduate studies at Sion Hospital, Mumbai, and then worked at the Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, New Delhi, for four years.

Born and raised in Etah, Vikas remembers his childhood and shares that he was very  focused on his studies, though Etah was a small town with limited opportunities. He knew if he wanted more from life, he had to study hard. As there were not many career options then, he took the conventional path of becoming a doctor.

When he came to Delhi for the first time, Vikas got the opportunity to learn about the medical field.  He attended coaching classes and cracked the exam. Vikas shares that his interest in the medical field mainly developed when he started visiting patients during his MBBS. When he met underprivileged patients and then understood their problems, the whole experience changed something in him. He understood the true purpose of his medical education.

After his MBBS, Vikas started working on pain management during his postgraduate years. Because he had worked in the anesthesia domain, where there are two main responsibilities - working with the ICU patients and pain management during and after the surgery. Unfortunately, in India, this field is still under-explored and there are many legal issues related to it, which makes it a less desirable field for medical practitioners. So, his interest developed in this field of pain management, and in 2016, he started working in this field. He sees his field as the noblest, as among his patients are mostly elderly people who suffer from pain, and he becomes God’s hand for them to reduce their pain.

Vikas looks at mistakes as a crucial part of life. For him, no one has a perfect life, and mistakes are bound to happen. One must learn from their mistakes and move on. He advises everyone not to take any mistakes to heart; just accept them and try to learn from them.

As role models, his teachers have played a crucial role in his life, says Vikas  when asked about his role models. Every time he used to feel anxious about his lack of English fluency, his teachers at the government school would encourage and motivate him. He also looks up to Sachin Tendulkar, who is also his favorite player and who motivated almost everyone in the country with his journey ‌and his humble nature. The present Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is also close to his heart.

Vikas seeks motivation from the quote, which is -”Accept the good and the bad in you, don't run from them, and try to improve upon them.” He also says one must stay true to himself; only then will you get the solution to your problem.

To the young generation, Vikas advises them that the medicine field is not the same as it was earlier,  it has changed. It has become more commercialized and has its own challenges. He says if someone wants to come into this field just to earn money, he needs to have a reality check. To be a medical practitioner, one has to invest almost fifteen years in this field, which is definitely not an easy path.

Lastly, Vikas says no profession is bad, people could be bad or good. So, if someone really believes in and feels happy serving people, then he must follow this profession, and he will achieve the utmost satisfaction and success in this field.
