Vijay Kumar Vaid is a Professional Singer, Full-time Musician, and Pianist.
He is currently a PGT Vocal Music teacher at Surajkund International School in Delhi, where he has been teaching for the last five years. Before this, he taught at another school in Delhi for 7 to 8 years.
Vijay completed his education at a government school in Delhi and graduated from Delhi University. He is currently pursuing a Grade in piano from Trinity College London. His professional music training began in the 10th standard under the guidance of Guru Vardani Lal Prajapati.
Vijay's passion for singing started in childhood. He fondly recalls singing a song in his KG class, which resulted in his Maths teacher slapping him for humming in class. Despite that, his passion for music grew, and he began his formal training in the art.
Reflecting on his journey, Vijay describes it as filled with happiness. He believes in taking God's name and teaches his students about the importance of God in life. He acknowledges some challenges, such as starting his musical journey a bit late and initially lacking a mentor. However, he learned from these experiences and continued to grow in his musical career.
Vijay's achievements include singing for All India Radio in 2003 and 2004 and having a show telecasted on Pragya TV in 2009. He performed at IIT Delhi in 2014. Many of his students are preparing for various music exams and teaching positions, with some now working in well-established music schools.
Vijay considers multiple individuals as his role models. His mother played a crucial role in his life, supporting his passion for music despite his father's opposition. Pradeep Sir, a PGT teacher at Kendriya Vidyalaya, also supported him during his 10th and 12th standards, enabling him to continue his studies. Lastly, he learned significantly from his guru, Guru Vardani Lal Prajapati, whom he also considers a role model.
For Vijay, music is everything. He finds solace in writing when stressed and chooses music over cricket, his former hobby. Although he can no longer play cricket due to physical reasons, he still loves watching the sport.
His motivational line is, “Live and let live.” He believes in working in a way that does not negatively affect others and emphasizes looking out for others' happiness as well as one's own.
When asked how he deals with mental stress, Vijay says that his profession itself helps him get rid of his stress. Writing, music and talking to his friends are other ways to deal with stress for him.
Vijay advises aspiring young musicians to consider music as a secondary focus alongside formal education. He emphasizes the importance of quality education and formal music training.
