Gaining from exposure to world’s largest textile producing countries, Vijay envisioned transforming the textile industry by creating different designs and patterns on various kinds of textiles using updated technologies.

Vijay Agarwal is a B.Tech in Textiles from MLV Textile and Engineering College, Bhilwara and then he did his P.G. having specialisation in the field of Garments from NIFT, Delhi. Consequently, he did jobs in the garment sector for a dozen of years all over India, mainly with Vardhman and Nahar Textile Groups in Ludhiana. Subsequent to the exposure from these mammoth textile groups, he also worked in Japan and China in order to shift new technologies to India. He observed that Japanese people work on a special fabric, which he transferred to India along with their technology and started production of formal shirts.

In 2015, Vijay started his own venture as Calvintex Ventures Private Ltd. in Bhilwara, Rajasthan. Currently, he owns one more company in the name of Calvintex Wears Ltd. He claims to produce one-and-a-half lakh garments a month and has employed almost seven-hundred male and female operators. He proclaims that the textile industry is one of the largest employment generating sectors in India and is helping the society in its development.

Further Vijay feels that this field is salutary for women because stitching is a soft-skill work and they do this job very well. Or so to say, God has created females to have a stitching efficiency or working style better than the males and they perform very well in this particular field. He feels good that he is  serving the society by employing hundreds of people.

Vijay considers Anil Sharma to be his role model for motivating him to become an entrepreneur. But Vijay lacked financial leverage due to being in a job and coming from a middle-class family. Hence, Anil arranged a meeting for Vijay with existing entrepreneurs and explained to them about this new field and encouraged them to do something out of it. Therefore, with Anil’s support of showing a way, Vijay himself decided his journey ahead.

Talking about education vs experience, Vijay opines that when we consider a correlation between  education and becoming an entrepreneur, we understand that the theoretical knowledge about any field comes from education only and its practical application can be learnt by entering into the industry. Without education, practicality can only give superficial knowledge and not in-depth knowledge. Thus, education is most important in life to be confident.

Vijay contends that people have a perception about the garment industry that it only has to do something with fashion designing but the truth is that it is just one part of this industry. The major part consists of a process starting with the designer giving a sketch on paper, then bringing that sketch to the fabric, making the garment, finishing it and then producing it at the mass level. He says that it is a low investment, labour-intensive industry having a huge scope of jobs and business.

Vijay advises introverted yet studious persons that if you want to move forward in life then you need to have good communication skills and confidence. He says that when you are in college, don’t just be a bookworm, instead work on your communication and social skills because these are two important pillars of your life which take you towards success.

Vijay says that he was not so serious and skillful before 2010, but after he went to Japan, he learned the importance of discipline and punctuality to move ahead in life.

Vijay’s success-mantra is that you should never take shortcuts to do business and never cheat. If you want to survive for a long time then you have to focus on the quality of your product and sooner or later, you will definitely succeed.
