Vidhi Angira Sharma has been working as a Managing Head Buyer for Footwear at Tata Trent’s Zudio for the past two-and-a-half years.
Vidhi belongs to Udaipur. She did her schooling from St. Mary’s School. She studied at BN College, Udaipur for a year and then went to NIFT, Chennai. She graduated as a Fashion Designer from there and got her first job in Mumbai under a designer. There she learned work for two-and-a-half years and then started working as a buyer for import products at FBB. After a long stint of eight years at FBB, she switched her job and joined apparel chain Zudio by Trent, owned by Tata group as a buyer for footwear.
Recalling her childhood, Vidhi says that like every child, she also dreamt of doing something big in life. He says that his family used to own a handicrafts showroom. Seeing the foreigners there, she used to get fascinated by the thought of going abroad and traveling to foriegn lands.
Talking about her role models, Vidhi says she considers herself as her biggest inspiration because when no one else trusted her, she made herself strong and, keeping faith in herself, she achieved great heights in life. Besides, she draws inspiration from her husband for being her biggest supporter and for pushing her every time.
Remembering her struggling times, Vidhi says that there had been many ups and downs in her life. Also, she was not good at studies. So everyone felt that she would not be able to do anything worthwhile in life. Even her parents used to think of getting her married at the right time. Apart from this, clearing the NIFT exam was a big struggle for her which she cleared in her second attempt. But she sacrificed her dream of becoming a fashion designer as she got a seat in Footwear designing instead of fashion, which she grabbed with pleasure. While going to NIFT, people tried to instigate her parents not to send her out of town to study fashion for it not being a good career choice. But with great difficulty she convinced her parents.
Describing her achievements, Vidhi says passing in the first grade in class 10th and being an All India Topper during her college time, were great achievements for her. After that, getting selected in six companies in her campus recruitment drive was itself an achievement for her.
Speaking about her COVID experience, Vidhi says that COVID time has been the best time for her. As for the first time in her professional journey of seven years, it happened that she was able to live full time with her daughter and spend quality time with her for so long.
About leadership, Vidhi says that she doesn’t consider herself a born leader but she learned a lot from her mentors and seniors and has developed leadership qualities and skills in her over a period of time. She handles her team very well, supports them and people also listen to her and move forward with her.
If anyone wants to make a career in the fashion industry, Vidhi advises them to choose their college wisely to get quality education and to learn from the best in the industry. It creates your core competency in the field and makes you able to achieve your goal in a shorter span of time.
Advising the youngsters, Vidhi says that it is important that we earn money but in the race to earn money, you should not forget learning. So when you keep learning, money automatically follows you. Also, never consider yourself to be omniscient because your overconfidence can hit you hard.
