A skilled artist and contestant on the reality programme Saregama, Vejayalakshmi has won several music competitions. She began her career in Carnatic music while also working as a self-employed vocalist. She has also performed alongside prominent personalities.

Vejayalakshmi Puli is a professional artist, singer and musician in Bengaluru.

Vejayalakshmi says she had longed to sing and perform on a large platform ever since she was a young child and Saregama provided her with the platform to pursue her artistic interests. She used to perform in front of the mirror when she was younger because she was frightened to perform in front of people.

She acquired a wealth of musical experience and expertise when she entered college. She enrolled in music courses as well, beginning with Carnatic music. She learned music for another two years, but her musical career was put on hold when she had to relocate. Later, when she was in the eleventh grade, she picked up where she had left off by watching YouTube videos and learning from them. She worked on her confidence and practised a lot.

Following her graduation from college, she pursued an LLB and competed alongside in several events. She also won first place in a number of competitions which gave her more self-assurance. She thereafter began doing her own little shows and began giving performances in cafés. She also became a freelance vocalist for a band.

She got the opportunity of her lifetime when, after clearing the regional rounds, she was given the chance to perform on the esteemed Saregama stage. She had to compete with other candidates after being chosen for the audition. She was appreciative of the opportunity to perform in front of notable people.

Vejayalakshmi was born in Mumbai and then shifted to Bengaluru due to the transfer of her father.  It is where she was raised and finished her education. She attended Mount Carmel College in Bengaluru for her eleventh and twelfth grades in commerce. After passing the CLAT on her first attempt, she enrolled in Gujarat National Law University. There, she experienced and relished the hostel lifestyle.

Nicolette Gore, the creator of Sunday Secret Sessions, provided her with the chance to play and collaborate with well-known musicians. It was then that she discovered her musical style and began to lean towards independent music. She treasures the memory of receiving her first pair of headphones from her father on her birthday in the eighth grade.

Regarding her personal role models, Vejayalakshmi states that her parents serve as her inspiration as they have always encouraged her and are very open-minded. Regarding her career, she finds inspiration in the struggles and fresh starts of Shilpa Rao and Arijit Singh.

When she is not doing anything, she finds inspiration in believing that God is protecting her, that God will provide her with a better opportunity, or in figuring out the reasons why she has become free. She thinks that the secret to succeeding in anything in life is patience.

Speaking of her struggles, Vejayalakshmi says she had to deal with people doubting her abilities and making hurtful remarks about her on social media when she was picked for Saregama. She began to doubt her own ability, and it was extremely difficult for her to get over that. She made the decision to persevere and give it her all with the support of her mentors on that programme.

It was an accomplishment for her when her audition video went viral and she received many kind remarks from the public. She also had the chance to play alongside great composers and other famous people like Madhuri Dixit. Sharing the stage with Himesh Reshammiya made her feel thrilled.

Vejayalakshmi tells those who aspire to work in the arts field to be patient since everything will work out in due course. It is important to be self-assured and unaffected by what others think. Pay attention to the positive aspects and proceed with confidence. She thinks that self-assurance is crucial for anyone working in creative fields, particularly music. Never give up, keep practising, maintain your modesty, be positive, and remain grounded.

She believes that the youth of today are more engaged with social media and mobile phones, which are disseminating hate worldwide. It's critical to take care of yourself and make time for yourself. Live your life to the fullest as there is no tomorrow.
