Vandana was given all the facilities and opportunities by her father at a time when women’s role was mostly limited to household work only.

Vandana Udawat is an experienced lawyer and has been practising law since 1994. She specialises in civil litigations. Besides, she is also adept in matters falling under the ambit of criminal and revenue litigations.

Vandana was born and raised in Udaipur. Her maternal grandfather and father-in-law were freedom fighters. She says that we are so privileged to be living a normal life because of the struggles and sacrifices of our predecessors. Vandana was very young when she realised that she wanted to be a lawyer when she grew up. Her father’s friend Adv. Ravindra Ji Goyal inspired her to become a lawyer.

Vandana considers her father as her role model who despite all the odds in life, raised her very well and gave her everything to the best of his capacity. If she could go back in time then she would want to relieve the time that she spent with her father.

In 1994, Vandana started practising law under the able guidance of Adv. Pramodani Bakshi, and worked with her for a year. After that, she started practising independently. Initially, she faced challenges with regard to getting clients, but slowly and steadily she started getting clients.

To the aspiring lawyers, Vandana advises that you can do either a five-year law course after high school or a three-year law course after your graduation. Besides, she says mere getting a degree won’t make you a lawyer, you need to work on the ground to learn the ropes of the profession. Furthermore, she advises that you ought to be patient and honest with your clients to flourish in this field.

Vandana thinks that in the field of law, education and experience both complement each other. She says that if you have a good law education then you can work well in this field and gain good experience.

Vandana shares that the Covid pandemic was a tragic situation for everyone. It hit every sector indiscriminately. It was very hard for people to sustain and maintain their lifestyles as most of the people either lost their jobs or did not receive their salaries. She also says that people from the lowest stratum of society like daily wage workers and labourers were hit the most by the pandemic. It was very uncertain for them as to when they would get work as most of the businesses were shut. Furthermore, she adds that most of the people had to do odd jobs that couldn’t justify their profiles and owing to that some people slid into depression. But the pandemic taught us the importance of saving money for unforeseen circumstances.

Vandana considers her mother and late mother-in-law as inspirational figures. She says that both of them, despite being old, did their work all by themselves.
