Vandana is currently pursuing her PhD in order to become an Assistant Professor. She has always been a promising student and aspires to become an IPS Officer.

Vandana Kumari is a Research Fellow in the Geography Department at M.L.S.U. She is doing research work on ‘Water Resources’ and drinking water problems in urban and rural areas in the Girwa Tehsil of Udaipur. The focus of her research work includes demand of water and its supply, filtration systems, and storage of rainwater by localites.

Vandana says that in today’s time, groundwater is decreasing at a fast pace so she advises us to store the rainwater that is best to consume as it is not contaminated and is fluoride free.

Vandana belongs to Sikar and spent her childhood there itself. She did her M.A. from the Geography Department of Rajasthan University, Jaipur. Then she moved to Udaipur in 2019 for her PhD.

Vandana chose this very topic for her research work because when she came to Udaipur, she went to nearby villages to explore and she noticed that there existed a lot of problems related to drinking water. Due to poverty, the villagers used to travel long distances on bicycles to fetch drinking water. There are several other issues due to which she felt that it is very important to do research on this topic.

Vandana left her home in 2016 for further studies, so she never spent much time with her family. But during the pandemic, she got a chance to stay at home and enjoyed her time with family.

Vandana’s role models are her parents because seeing them, she has progressed in life and has been able to move ahead. She also considers Pranab Mukherjee as her role model because of his gracious nature.

Vandana’s dream is to become an IPS Officer as she enjoys doing field work rather than office work. Currently she is doing PhD to prepare to be a college lecturer. She feels that to become an IPS Officer, she lacks that ‘X’ factor now but after becoming a lecturer she would definitely prepare for IPS.

If Vandana gets a chance that she can go back and do something different again, she would go back to her college time and prepare for UPSC rather than coming into the teaching line as she lacks interest in this field. Still, as currently she is in the teaching field and pursuing PhD, she wants to see herself as an Assistant Professor very soon.

Talking about achievements, Vandana says that till her 10th std, there was not a studious atmosphere in her village. But in 11th class she got some good guidance in studies that enabled her to get third merit position in 12th Board in the state. After that she topped in colleges and has been a scholar. She was active in sports too.

About leadership, Vandana says that since she started teaching B.A. students, she gradually gained experience and her leadership skills developed.

Vandana advises the newcomers to be updated to get into this field. She believes you should be confident enough to answer the questions of students satisfactorily.

Vandana’s success-mantra for life is hard work because nothing can be done without hard work.

Apart from education, Vandana likes every sport and games.

Vandana suggests not to be afraid of the Geography subject because what we see around us is what geography is and that is beautiful as it includes nature, mountains, plains and water resources.
