How you live, not how long you live, matters.
Vaishali Singh is a professional watercolor and oil paint artist.
Her artistic journey began a mere eight years ago, when she first exhibited her art in the public domain. The overwhelming response her paintings received even amazed her. Encouraged by the recognition, she continued showing her art in different countries, never looking back. Most recently, she exhibited her paintings at the Lalit Kala Academy in Delhi. Social media, too, has become a platform for her art, with commissions flowing in from far and wide.
Born into an army family, she crisscrossed the country, schooling in different cities before acquiring her BA and BEd from Sophia College, Ajmer. A postgraduate in English, Vaishali has also taught in schools.
Vaishali's artistic journey has roots in her family's past. Her mother's artistic endeavors encouraged her to always have an artistic spark even though she was raised in the regimented rhythm of an army life. Matrimony and parenting turned into digressions that briefly took center stage until her son went to study abroad providing her with an opportunity. Taking advantage of her free time, she picked up a paintbrush on the encouragement of her friends in the artistic circle to showcase her artwork on a public platform.
Yet, life has its own challenges, and for Vaishali, after her mother passed away, things have been difficult for her. Married to an army man, her days were consumed by the dual demands of nurturing children and managing a household, leaving no room for personal pursuits.
Speaking of her achievements, Vaishali shares that she does not measure her accomplishments in sales or accolades but in the sheer joy she finds while living her passion and creating art of her own style.
When asked about her role models, Vaishali says she draws inspiration from her mother, who served as the first lighthouse in her artistic career. Another motivation is a young prodigy who painted 25,000 paintings in a brief but prolific life, leaving a lasting impression on the artistic world.
She draws inspiration from various artists but is resolute in forging her own identity. Her favorite quote, "We are here for a very short time, so don’t worry, don’t hurry, and make sure to smell the flowers along the way," encapsulates the essence of her philosophy.
To budding artists, Vaishali extends advice to follow your heart, stay humble, practice relentlessly, and cultivate uniqueness. She also warns not to become obsessed by your passion and also take time out for your loved ones.
Her words serve as a call to action for the country's youth, encouraging them to follow their passions and showcase their abilities to the world.
