Discussing her inspiration behind pursuing baking as a profession, Urvi Zaveri shares that she started baking cakes as a child and was always curious about the process. She was fascinated by cake frosting and would often experiment with baking during her vacations when her mother was asleep. Since she comes from a vegetarian family and eggs were not available at home, Zaveri focused on baking eggless cakes, experiencing both failures and occasional successes.
Before pursuing baking, Urvi Zaveri worked as a preschool teacher but often felt something was missing in her life. One day, she discovered a cake page that ignited her passion for cake artistry and led her to the baking profession. She is grateful for her family's support throughout her baking journey and appreciates the clients who value her work.
Sharing her struggles, Urvi Zaveri says juggling the roles of a teacher and baker was not easy. She often burned the midnight oil to fulfil both roles. In the beginning, she frequently had to redo cakes, and there were times when her business was slow. However, she emerged stronger from these challenges, continuing her passion for baking for seven years alongside teaching. Eventually, she bid farewell to her teaching career to focus full-time on baking. Urvi also recalls managing her child while juggling both roles.
Urvi Zaveri reflects on her early days, sharing that she was born and raised in Sharjah, UAE, before moving to Gujarat, India, after marriage. She holds a BCom degree with a focus on Home Science, and she has not pursued any formal education in baking. However, her passion for cakes drove her to take online and offline baking courses, where she honed her skills. Eager to experiment with new recipes, Urvi used her free time to learn and improve her craft. Today, she conducts baking classes for people aged 8 to 70, as well as cooking classes for young children. No matter the batch size, Urvi brings enthusiasm and dedication to teaching her students. She believes in sharing all her knowledge and expertise with her students.
When asked about her role models, Urvi Zaveri says she draws inspiration from both national and international bakers. One of her inspirations is Yolanda Gampp of ‘How to Cake It’, whose videos she watches regularly. Indian cake artists like Prachi Dhabal Deb and Rumana Jaseel also inspire her the most.
“Never looking back and always moving forward” is a quote that inspires Urvi. She also finds motivation in the song ‘Ek Zindagi Meri’ from the movie Angrezi Medium, which rejuvenates her during difficult times.
Urvi Zaveri advises aspiring bakers to focus on building strength and ensuring their business is profitable. She cautions against chasing money too early, as it could be draining in the long run. Her message is: Think wisely, invest in the right tools, hire manpower, seek help, and learn from others rather than reinventing the wheel. She recommends enrolling in online courses and maintaining proper equipment, such as commercial ovens and OTGs, to succeed in this industry.
“Always stay happy” is the message she wants to give to the Indian citizens. She also urges them to give all their heart in whatever they do.
