Udita has been volunteering as a President at her college’s social club with her solution driven attitude.

Udita Wadhwa is a student who is also the President of Enactus, the social club at  IIT- Delhi. She has been working for the development of tribal areas in Madhya Pradesh for more than two years now.

Udita is originally from Delhi but she grew up in various states due to her father’s transferable job. She is currently pursuing Biotechnology at IIT- Delhi.

Talking about her association with Enactus, the social club of her college, Udita says that she always had a solution driven attitude and couldn’t sit back freely upon noticing something that requires fixing. This attitude of hers, she says, motivated her to join this club. Gradually, she also became the president of the club. She has undertaken various projects while being in the club. Currently she is leading three projects that are associated with the fields of rural development, urban energy sector, and menstrual hygiene.

Udita is currently working towards rural development in the tribal belt of Jhabua, MP. She says that she got to know about the place in a seminar at her college delivered by the founder of an NGO that is based there. She went to Jhabua with her friends after getting inspired by the presentation of the NGO founder. She says that it was a very unique experience for her as the lifestyle there was poles apart from her city life. She says that gradually she began liking visiting the place and regularly visits there for the past two years. She says that her biggest motivation to work for that community is the love and compassion that they shower on the visitors. She thinks that it is very important to bridge the gap between cities and villages.

Talking about the struggles that she faced during her journey, Udita says that she faced restriction from everyone including her parents and professors, who thought it is not safe for a girl to stay in a tribal area. She says that during that period, affection from the tribal people was her biggest support. She says that there she met other students as well with similar problems so it was easy to face challenges.

Udita considers her grandmother as her role model. She says that although her grandmother doesn’t quite understand what it is that she does, she is always there for her and guides her during confusing times. She says that her father’s criticising remarks have also been a great motivator for her.

Speaking of her regrets, Udita says that she used to have fear of judgement and her quality of instantly getting attached to any work. She says that both these things have held her back for a long time. She eventually learned that one should be honest with oneself and learn acceptance.
