A martial arts trainer, Tushar has completed his training in Karate, Kudo, and MMA. He has been working in the field of martial arts for the last fifteen years.

Tushar Mehta is a Sensei Founder at The Spiritual Martial Arts Academy in Udaipur.

Tushar belongs to Jhadol, Udaipur. He has a B.Sc. and an LLB. He has also earned a diploma in yoga. From an early age, Tushar was attracted to martial arts. He would watch Bollywood and Hollywood action movies and get inspired to do martial arts.

Recalling his childhood, Tushar says that he has a lot of childhood memories, like the break times in school, climbing on trees, sitting on river banks, and many more. He enjoyed his childhood thoroughly.

Talking about his journey, Tushar says that when he was in the tenth grade, he got to know that there was a karate class in Jhadol. Then he met Sajjan Sir and decided to join him. He did football practice in the morning and then went to his teacher. So he started his martial arts journey under the guidance of his guru. He did karate training for five years in Jhadol, and then after completing his twelfth, he went to Udaipur. Then he joined a martial arts academy in Udaipur. Afterwards, he joined Kudo for some years and then worked with the All India Martial Arts Association.

Tushar says that when he told his parents that he wanted to do martial arts full-time, they were skeptical of his decision. They did not think of martial arts as a game or a profession. It was very challenging for him to convince his family. His teacher also tried to convince his parents. But his mother, who was a Kabaddi and Kho-Kho player, somewhere knew that he was doing well. But she was concerned about him like every other parent, as one can get injured in martial arts, and Tushar was the only son of his parents. But he continued martial arts. In 2005-2006, he won his first state championship. He won the gold medal and even got featured in a newspaper.

Talking about hardships in his life, Tushar says that in his life he has gone through a lot of ups and downs and struggled a lot. To pursue his dream, he even left Udaipur and went to Barmer, where he was met with many struggles. Tushar wrote to many people and visited several schools to give him a chance to train students. That’s when he met the father of St. Paul’s School in Barmer. He allowed him to train a batch of students at his school. After a month of training, Tushar received his first paycheck. After that, he got many more students to train, and he was doing well.

Tushar also worked for the Kudo International Federation in India. Akshay Kumar also lauded him for his skills. But he never knew that those who were close to him would pull him down. Owing to internal politics, his career came to a standstill. He went through depression and even had strokes. He underwent heart surgery. He was bedridden for a year. But he never gave up and tried hard to get work again in Udaipur for one year. He kept fighting and rose every time he fell. Then, after one year, he got the chance to start his classes at Vision Academy, Indo-American School, Genius Kids School, Crossroads School, etc. Afterwards, he started running his own martial arts academy in Udaipur.

Sharing about his achievements, Tushar says that he got a black belt in karate in 2008. He also earned black belts in different forms of karate, like the All India Karate Federation, Shorin-ryu, and Goju-ryu. He won a gold medal at the national level in Kudo in 2014. He also passed the Kudo Black Belt exam on his first attempt.

While comparing education and experience, Tushar says that both are very important in life as they complement each other. One should strike a balance between education and experience. He says that experience in life tells us how to take the next step.

If given a time machine, Tushar would want to do the same thing as he is doing now. He is happy doing martial arts and training students.

Tushar likes his work so much that he never feels the need to take a break from it. Besides his work, he likes to ride bikes, go to forests and mountains, and spend some solitary time.

Tushar says that he is not a born leader and is learning leadership qualities. He also aims to pass his knowledge down to the next generation.

Tushar’s role model is his mother, as she is very hardworking and never complains in any situation. His mother has taught him to never give up, to have continuity, and to have faith.

Advising aspirants to his field, Tushar says that there is a wide scope in this field, like official, referee, sportsperson, and many more. There are various types of federations with their own rules, and with them, one can join and start working. It is important to choose the form of martial arts and then decide how much time to devote to it. After this, one should decide the specialization field and then the federation to work with. These points should be clear if you want to achieve success in the field of martial arts.
