Tishya Khare has been running a dance academy called ‘Etram Dance Academy’ based in Bangalore for the past five years.
Tishya says that dance was only her hobby and she never thought of turning it into a profession. She was working as an IT Engineer in HP and teaching dance at a dance academy was just her another earning source. But her destiny had other plans for her as her dance academy became a hit in the city because of her dance dramas. Amidst this two-year journey, she also found her partner, with whom she started Etram Dance Academy. It is a classical and folk based dance company.
Tishya hails from Panna in Madhya Pradesh. She did her schooling from DAV Public School there. She says that she comes from a high educational background, where her siblings are UPSC and IIT-IIM qualified. So there had always been a pressure on her to do something big and different in life. So, she was sent to Kota after her 10th grade for IIT entrance exam coaching. Even after working hard, she could not clear IIT entrance. Hence, she ended up doing her engineering in Computer Science from a private college. From there she got her campus placement in HP as an IT Engineer in Bangalore.
Recalling her childhood memories, Tishya says that she was very fond of dancing since childhood. She participated in many competitions and won many titles too. But being from a small town, she lacked adequate dance training. But after moving to Bangalore, she joined a dance academy to learn dance, where she was also hired as a trainer in no time.
When asked about her role models, Tishya says she considers Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekanand as her role models for their principles, good intentions and doing something for the betterment of people.
Talking about her achievements, Tishya says that her academy has earned a good name and recognition in the last five years. Also her students are getting selected at big national level platforms, which is an achievement in itself.
Regarding her struggles, Tishya says that it was a big challenge for her to quit her engineering job when she was very close to her promotion and starting a new venture altogether. But time supported her and she progressed in the field of dance.
Speaking about her COVID experience, Tishya says that the pandemic had worsened the conditions of businesses around the globe. She went through a similar trauma but she launched her online classes only a week after the lockdown. She faced a lot of challenges due to this shift initially, but later she progressed a lot. Because of this, not only students but also the teachers from different corners of the country were connected and given training.
Tishya doesn’t advise anyone to make a career in dance just because you are a good dancer or have a talent for dance. So, she says, until you decide what you want to become in this field, you shouldn’t step into this industry.
Tishya advises the parents to understand the talents of their child and focus on what they want to do in life. Further she says that you would not get any result by imposing your wishes on them. In case of failure, support your child so that they can move ahead in life.
