Tinku Ojha is working as a technician at an eye bank in Kota, Rajasthan.

Tinku is from Samraniya town in Baran district of Rajasthan. He did most of his education from government schools and managed his educational expenses by himself.

After completing his high school, Tinku suffered the tragic loss of his mother to cancer. That time was very difficult for him and that made him realize the value of organ donation. Tinku felt a drive in him to help the people who are in need of an organ and started looking for ways through which he could do that.

In the meantime, Tinku got into college and also started looking for a job at the same time. With some help from one of his friends, he got a job at the Shine India Foundation. The Shine India Foundation is a non-profit, charitable trust based in Kota, and its main objective is to help people in the health and education sectors and make them self-reliant.

Tinku says that, initially, it was quite difficult for him to work there as his job was to convince the family members of the deceased to donate the organs of their deceased relative. He says that this job comes with its obvious set of challenges, as it is not deemed appropriate to talk about donating organs of the deceased to their grieving family members just hours after they have died, and some people may also get offended due to this. But Tinku says that he really got to learn many things working there, like how to talk to people tactfully. After some time, with everyone’s encouragement, Tinku went to Hyderabad for training to become an eye bank technician.

Tinku is so passionate about this cause that he organized an awareness camp during his wedding too. He also appealed to his guests not to bring any presents and instead sign a pledge to donate their organs and promote organ donation at their own level too. Tinku laments that there is a general lack of awareness about organ donation in rural areas, and we as a society need to promote this trend and encourage people from rural settings to contribute to this cause.
