Taruna Sarkar is originally from Delhi but currently resides in Udaipur. She is a proud homemaker and mother of two children, as well as an Odissi dancer.
She expresses her gratitude towards her dance guru, Shally Srivastava, from Virasat Ensemble, for giving her a platform in the dance field alongside her responsibilities as a homemaker.
Taruna is dedicated to her pursuit of Odissi and is currently in her second year of training. She also imparts her knowledge of Odissi to children through both online and offline classes. Although she misses her family back in Delhi, Taruna cherishes her supportive husband, who encourages her passion for dance.
Reflecting on her early aspirations, Taruna admits that she was not particularly fond of academics during her time at Delhi University. Instead, she had a keen interest in pursuing a career as a makeup artist, in the fitness or yoga industry, or in dance. As a child, she loved watching movies and was captivated by dance and acting. However, as she grew older, Taruna realized that real life is different from what she saw on screen.
Taruna got married at a young age but considers herself fortunate to have a husband who supports her dancing endeavors. When she was young her parents were hesitant about her joining dance classes, as they believed she already possessed natural talent. However, with her husband's support and her daughter’s desire to learn classical dance, Taruna joined Virasat Ensemble along with her daughter.
Due to the distance between her home and the dance class, Taruna and her daughter have opted for a combination of online and offline classes. It has been a year since they started their journey, and Taruna feels a significant boost in her confidence.
Her message to parents, housewives, and children is to not wait for the right time to do anything. She encourages everyone to express their desires to those who understand and support them, and to stand up for themselves. She believes in the quote, "Karat karat abhyas te.. Jadmati hot sujan," emphasizing the importance of hard work and practice, which she has learned from her husband, who is a chef.
When asked about her role models, Taruna says that her admiration shifted from Madhuri Dixit to her husband after their marriage. However, after joining Odissi classes, she now sees her guru, Shally Srivastava, as her true role model, and aspires to become like her.
Differentiating between education and experience, Taruna believes that education is essential, but experience also holds great significance. She stresses the importance of practicality in life and encourages students to engage in various activities to gain valuable experiences.
Taruna's message to the youth and all Indians is to prioritize personal time and nurture their talents amid the busyness of life. She urges individuals to dedicate at least one hour each day to themselves and their passions.
