If you can struggle hard in life, then you can achieve what you strive for.
Tapan Sheth is a Wildlife and Nature Photographer from Rajkot, Gujarat. As a profession, he has been running a software company for the last fourteen years, but by passion he is a photographer.
Tapan started his photography journey in 2013, while on vacation in Goa. In the early days, he tried different genres of photography like Fashion and Bird photography, but he moved towards Wildlife photography, especially big cats.
Tapan belongs to Rajkot in Gujarat and studied there only. He did B.Com from his city and after graduating, he had no other options than doing a job as there was not much scope for business in his city. His parents were also government servants so there was no business environment in the family either. So, when his graduation was over, at that time, the IT sector was on a boom and so he chose to get further education in that field. He also did a six-months C-DAC certification course and worked for an IT Company for a few months. Then he got an opportunity to start his own IT Company in 2003 and since then he is running his own company.
Talking about his achievements, Tapan says that, in 2016, he received the ‘Nature’s Best Photography Award, Asia.’ It was the lone photograph of an Asiatic Lion which was exhibited in the National History Museum, in Washington DC and the only Asian photograph that was exhibited internationally.
Tapan says that Covid-19 affected everyone's lives a lot, mentally as well as physically. Due to the imposition of the lockdown no one was able to leave their house and could not even do their routine work. But he converted that restriction into an opportunity by reading about the species on which he was working. Apart from this, he also came very close to his family members as earlier he could hardly get time for them.
If anyone wants to start his startup in the IT field, then Tapan advises them to have strong financial and educational backup. If you have good knowledge and experience then you will be able to easily compete in the market and you can create your own place. Also, you have to choose your team and partners very carefully.
Regarding photography, he recommends buying a camera which you can afford, practice with it and then slowly try your hand at different genres. And finally when you know in which genre you want to move, then slowly and gradually upgrade your gadgets and keep moving forward in it.
Tapan considers his mentor Yogendra Shah, who is also his best friend, as his role model as he taught Tapan everything about photography. He also got inspired from Sachin Ray, one of his mentors, whose photography inspires him a lot.
In Tapan’s opinion, Experience has more weightage than Education because when it comes to photography, you can’t read everything about it in books. Rather you have to work in the field and get knowledge and experience about the techniques of photography.
