Tapan Sunil Kumar is a food entrepreneur who initiated his business idea in 2018. He is famous for branding and promoting his business creatively, especially by selling his burgers on his bike. One of his videos about his "Free Burger" marketing strategy had gone viral.
Sharing about his journey, Tapan says that in 2018, he used to watch online videos of food joints and saw people ordering food online. He thought of starting a food business and established "Tummy Tikki Burger". He named his food venture after his sister’s nickname- “Tummy”.
Tapan says when someone starts a business, he has to face so much struggle and handle so many issues, but despite this, he gets little success. But he took advantage of his struggles and turned them into opportunities for him.
Tapan shares an incident from his initial days, when one day, because of heavy rain, he met with an accident and lost all his burgers in the rain. But instead of losing hope, he saw an opportunity in what had happened. He purchased a raincoat for himself and a cover for his box, in which he kept his burgers. Then he started selling his burgers whenever it rained to people standing under the shade, under bridges, bus stops, under trees, or wherever he used to find people taking shelter from the rain. The idea was well received by the public when he began offering his hot burgers to them while it was raining. This is how he got his publicity, and his business was on the run.
He remembers the time when he used to walk fourteen kilometers a day to complete his orders. Tapan says the key to his success is his face-to-face marketing. He applied various small marketing strategies that have been followed by small vendors for years. He says there were people who wanted to pull him back, but he just listened to his heart and followed his business instincts. He believes that during the journey, many problems will arise, but success will be achieved only after fighting with them.
Speaking about his mistakes, Tapan says he once met with an accident when he was driving a car, and because of that, he had to close down his business for a time. He thinks that was his mistake, and he should not have done that.
When asked about his accomplishments, Tapan says he is invited to prestigious business schools like Amity, GLS University, and many others to share his success story. Additionally, Kuldipsingh Kaler, a Gujarati author, included his tale in the book “Dhandho Nano Chhe Pan Potano Chhe”. He has been photographed and featured in numerous newspapers, TV shows, and food blogs.
When asked about his role models, Tapan says he considers his grandfather as his role model.
In difficult times, Tapan enjoys spending time by himself—sometimes in cemeteries—analyzing his issue or failure. He thinks that thinking about and analyzing the situation helps him gain a better understanding of the problem and find a solution.
Tapan enjoys spending time with children and telling them about the planets and space in his spare time. He also likes to travel when he's free.
Tapan advises people who want to start their own business to get their start by learning how to work in the field at ground level. They must get involved in all the little details of running their company.
