Tanushri Roy is a Lawyer and Public Policy Consultant currently working with the Ministry of Commerce, Govt. of India. She is also a Kathak Dancer and the director of her NGO-Shrinkhala Centre of Arts and Development.
Tanushri was born and brought up in New Delhi. She did her schooling from Mother’s International School in the Science stream. However, she did her graduation in Sociology from Lady Shri Ram College. She also holds a Law degree from Delhi University. She also completed her M.Phil in Public Policy from the University of Cambridge Commonwealth Center in Holland. Besides, she also has done masters in Kathak and has various junior diplomas in performing arts.
Talking about her childhood, Tanushri says she had supportive parents who always encouraged her to have a holistic education along with participation in many extra-curricular activities during her schooling.
Sharing her experiences, Tanushri talks about how her holistic education from being a science student to a lawyer to a classical dancer has helped her explore the world with a different perspective of life. She got the chance to know different people and their lives at the remote villages by traveling through different parts of India. She feels one common thread from her various professions is the motivation that inspired her to contribute to the development of society for different causes such as gender empowerment, environment conservation and education which has been a guiding light to her to start an NGO.
Regarding her mistakes, Tanushri says she does not think that she has committed any major mistakes in her life. Even if there were any confusions at any point of time, she took them as opportunities and moved forward.
When asked about her role models, Tanushri says her parents had been her greatest value system and role models. Besides her parents, she feels privileged to have great teachers and mentors who have inspired her throughout her life.
In her free time, Tanushri likes to travel. Cooking, painting, reading and being socially active spending time with her family are her favorite hobbies.
She advises young classical arts students to overcome their mental block and develop perseverance and purity to an art form by balancing their time and resources.
Her message for everyone is to believe in a cause greater than yourself, be sensitive to people and the environment, contribute to society and leave a meaningful impact.
