Syeed Habeeb Mustafa is a national boxing champion and the head coach and managing director at Habeeb Mustafa Boxing Academy, Hyderabad. He also works for the Indian Railways.
Recalling his childhood, Syeed says that he started boxing when he was sixteen years old. He belongs to a middle-class family. He completed his matriculation in Hyderabad, and thereafter, he did his graduation through distance learning. After his father’s demise, their family’s financial condition deteriorated. He was advised by his elders to take up individual Olympic sports rather than team sports, as it would give him greater chances to succeed. So he started training for boxing.
Talking about his achievements, Sayeed says that he has been an interdistrict, state, and national champion. He also got a government job through a sports quota in the Indian Railways.
He now runs his boxing academy, where he trains his students for state and national competitions.
Sharing about his challenges, Sayeed says he believes that competition from the North becomes tough, and being from the South, he has to train very hard. Sometimes, he was not able to follow the required diet due to financial constraints. He lost competitions but never stopped believing in himself. His hard work paid off when he became a national champion. He also won gold in an inter-railway zone competition.
Talking about his mistakes, Sayeed says that when he was seventeen, he got the chance to work for the Indian Army but did not join and considers it his greatest mistake.
Sayeed says that he never gets discouraged by his defeats, as nothing is impossible, and struggles for his goals.
When asked about his role models, Sayeed says the former boxing world champion, Mohammed Ali, is his inspiration.
In his spare time, he enjoys singing.
For mental peace, Sayeed likes to go to prayers in a mosque.
