Mistakes are the lessons of learning.
Swapan Banerjee is a dietician, lecturer, and nutrition scholar at Vivekananda Mission Seva Pratisthan. He has been working as a dietician for 13 years and has more than 12 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Altogether, he has more than 25 years of experience in industry, academia, and the consulting field.
Swapan hails from Kolkata.
Recalling his childhood, Swapan says that he came from a middle-class family and had to face many struggles in his childhood. He was not a brilliant child in school but enjoyed his school days. After completing his graduation from a reputed college, he pursued his post-graduation and is still learning from his research work.
Sharing his experiences, Swapan says that after his father died when Swapan was in the first year of his graduation, he was stricken with financial difficulties and somehow managed to pay his graduation fees by giving tuition. As the eldest son, he was burdened with all of his family's responsibilities. In 2000, after five years of struggle, he finally got a job in the pharmaceutical industry. He began his career as a medical representative, promoting the products of his company. He traveled to Nepal, Bhutan, and various parts of India for his work. Thereafter, he entered academia and started working as a dietician in the nutrition field.
Speaking about his mistakes, Swapan says that it is impossible not to make mistakes and that one should always learn from their mistakes. He regrets missing opportunities that came to him because he did not want to go outside Bengal. He feels that if he would have started his research work a bit earlier, he could have done much more. However, he has been successful in writing more than 15 research papers and has worked on many patents.
Sharing about his achievements, Swapan says he has received two research excellence awards and has been interviewed by several NGOs and government institutions. He is also the Editor in Chief of a journal, has collaborated with international journals, and has more than ten thousand followers on Instagram. He believes achievements can always be furthered by doing good.
When asked about his role models, Swapan says that he likes to follow scholars who have contributed so much to their academic fields. Reading their scholarly publications inspires him.
For mental peace, he likes to listen to musical instruments. He remembers that as a child, he used to take music classes as a hobby. Currently, he is into writing, which gives him peace of mind.
In his spare time, he works on his books and also likes to sleep.
Swapan’s success mantra is that he never sits still until he completes what he has undertaken. With determination and hard work, one can achieve whatever they want in their life, he says.
