Sutinder Mahajan is a Chemical Engineer who has served in big firms  in prestigious positions. He has always tried to train and transform young and fresh individuals into capable leaders.

Sutinder Mahajan is the Chief Advisor and Director at Wolkem India Limited in Udaipur. He has been working with this company for the past nineteen years.

Sutinder was born in a small village in Himachal Pradesh and completed his primary education there. Later, he did his intermediate from Dharamshala and his chemical engineering from Chandigarh.

Sutinder got his first job in Kota, Rajasthan, where he worked for five years before moving to the company’s corporate office. He worked at the corporate office for seven years and gained many useful professional skills. In the subsequent years, he worked at various organisations in higher positions and managed many projects. He worked at a fertiliser company named UB Group as a Deputy Manager. Then, as a Managing Director of a Biotech company for half a year, and then, he was hired as the India head for an overseas company. He also worked at the Western Crompton as the CEO-President in Chennai for five years. Lastly, he joined Wolkem in 2002 and has been working there since.

When asked about his role models, Sutinder says he has had many role models in his life. The first one taught him the skillset to move from technology to a techno-commercial approach and the second one helped him envision long-term goals. He learned a lot from most of his seniors in each of the industries in which he worked.

Sutinder has always believed in taking young and fresh graduates, MBA professionals or engineers and training and guiding them, and preparing them to be future leaders and CEOs.

Sutinder feels that today’s generation holds a lot of information as compared to his generation. However, if today’s generation could improve their lifestyle, health, and practice discipline, they could achieve greater heights and excel in whatever they do. Therefore, he advises the youngsters to keep patience, gain in-depth knowledge, and change their perspective on success.

Talking about COVID, Sutinder says that during COVID, the export and import units were closed in the first lockdown. However, with time and government permission, he was able to create dedicated teams, share knowledge for safety procedures, and deliver better business. He also hired his successor and worked with him to guide him for the future.

Sutinder’s hobbies include playing golf, listening to music, jogging, travelling, and making new friends.

Sutinder believes in creating a name for himself because he thinks that the designations change with time and leave you after retirement.  Furthermore, Sutinder feels that it's hard for some people to digest success. Thus, one should remain grounded even after achieving success, as a person is known for their name, not position.

Sutinder believes that a good leader creates an environment where people give their best and move ahead together.
