Unable to crack PMT, Sushma chose Zoology as her profession to stay connected with the field of science and biology. She undertakes research in the subject and also teaches her students the nitty-gritty of zoology.

Dr. Shushma Jain has been working as the HOD-Zoology at Vidya Bhawan Rural Institute for the last twelve years. She has been associated with the teaching profession for fifteen years and has worked as a guest faculty at various colleges.

Recalling her childhood, Sushma says that she grew up and studied in Udaipur. She recollects her early days spent in the old city, which is famous for its cultural values. Sushma has lived and celebrated every festival of Rajasthan quite beautifully in Udaipur.

When asked about her challenges, Sushma says that being a zoology lecturer in itself was a challenge for her since she belongs to a Jain family who believes in the values of non-violence. Sushma had to undergo dissection of animals, which was against the wishes of her family. From the very beginning, Sushma was inspired by the medical profession, which propelled her to choose Zoology as her subject. However, later, when she couldn't get through PMT, she decided to get into research.

Sushma continues to say that her family got her married when she was still pursuing her studies. Thereafter, she often found it difficult to manage her personal and professional life at the same time. However, her willingness to study further propelled her to pursue her PhD even after marriage. During that phase, her daughter was born, which was another challenge for her to cope with along with her studies.

Sharing her pandemic experience, Sushma says that since her husband contracted the virus, she had to manage everything, including taking him to the hospital with all safety measures. On the professional front, Sushma got introduced to technology and took online classes for her students.

When asked about her role models, Sushma says she draws inspiration from the Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, whom she finds as the perfect example of women's empowerment.

If Sushma could travel back in time through a Time Machine, she would prepare again for NEET and try to fulfill her dream of becoming a doctor.

In her message to the youth, Sushma says that challenges are a part of life, but facing them head-on is the art of life.

In her free time, Sushma watches videos related to art and crafts. She also enjoys watching makeup tutorials and makes sure to rest in her spare time. Sushma also likes to try new recipes to rejuvenate herself.
