An artist needs to be consistent and patient.
Suraj Prajapati is the Owner of Suraj Arts in Indore. He has been working in the Art industry for the past five to six years. Before making it a full-fledged profession, Suraj did Art as an occasional hobby. However, as Suraj’s father was a sculptor, he was inclined to arts from childhood. His school was quite supportive of arts and Suraj participated in all levels of Art competitions and championships. Later, Suraj did a bachelors in Industrial Microbiology and started preparing for PSC-IAS exams.
After some time, Suraj realised his passion for the arts and switched his career to the Art industry. Suraj believes that education is not as necessary for a career in arts as an imaginative and creative mind. A zeal, interest, and passion to do something different from others are what makes one an artist, according to Suraj. He feels that art schools can only teach techniques, however, the interest and will to make something new and innovative will help an artist succeed.
During Covid, Suraj faced a tough time. The work of all other artists with whom he collaborated and worked had stopped, and thus he too had to stop.
Suraj feels that the Art field is a struggle in itself. It starts when an artist is born and ends with the artist. Moreover, there are many struggles that an artist faces, such as the dilemma between earning money or earning fame, the lack of family support at times, demotivation or lack of self-support, the gap between expectation and reality, and the lack of proper guidance. These are a few grave struggles that all artists face in their journey. However, YouTube and the Internet are a relief for some of the problems, and thus Suraj finds his relaxation through them.
During his free time, Suraj either listens to music or watches YouTube videos or surfs social networking sites for motivation and refreshment.
Suraj’s role models are a few Modern Artists including Peter Terrin, among others. He admires him for his fine art skills and details.
Suraj advises aspiring artists to be consistent and patient while doing art. One should do it for themselves and not others. He says confidence leads the way to a successful art career.
Suraj’s first project for a restaurant in Indore in collaboration with an interior designer from the city was his first big break. This gave him the much-needed identity, fame, name, and lots of work later.
Suraj believes that when nothing goes as planned, an artist should at the least believe in their talent. They only need a trigger and the confidence builds up. Failures shouldn’t be counted as one and taken as a part of getting better and successful. He feels that once a person is successful, nobody remembers their mistakes or failures. Thus, one should not be afraid to make mistakes or fail, and only concentrate on the bigger goal consistently.
