Suraj Meena is the CEO of Nirmala Handicraft. They manufacture metal and brass items.
Suraj belongs to Palera, Jaipur.
Sharing his journey, Suraj says that after completing his 12th grade, he joined his father’s business of handicrafts in 2010. He shares that he also cleared the IIT JEE, but could not study engineering due to financial constraints. Thereafter, he moved to Jaipur and did a BA while helping his father in his business. He remembers the visit of representatives of IndiaMart, who advised and helped them start selling their products online to easily connect with people around the country. They started selling on Indiamart, and gradually their business grew. Later, they opened a showroom.
Sharing about his struggles, Suraj says that he worked day and night to make their business grow. He has to manage everything alone, from manufacturing to supervising his staff.
Describing his work, Suraj says that they buy old and broken metal and brass items from the people. Then these metal pieces are mounded into round-shaped balls and cast in a furnace. Then, it is given a shape, dried, and given a final touch with ‘meenakari’ work.
When asked about his role models, Suraj says that his father has struggled a lot and is inspirational to him. He has learned everything from him.
To all those who want to enter this field, Suraj advises them that there are different kinds of handicrafts that one can work on. The most important thing is to bring creativity to their work to attract more customers.
