After getting sensitized to the suffering of patients, Suraj became a Physiotherapist to give patients a fair chance to get treated by charging an affordable fee.

Suraj Kumar is the owner and Physiotherapist at Balaji Physiotherapy in Kanpur.

Suraj comes from the city of Kanpur. He has done a diploma course in Physiotherapy followed by a Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy.

Suraj shares that initially he was not aware of the Physiotherapy branch, he just wanted to join the medical field. He says that once when he was visiting a government hospital, he saw that the patients didn’t completely recover even after the surgery which motivated him to join the field of Physiotherapy.

And thus he went for a diploma course in Physiotherapy. However, it was not easy for Suraj to start out as a Physiotherapist in those days as the field was not a popular one. He says that he had to visit his first patient everyday who lived ten kilometres away. He also successfully treated his father who was paralyzed. Then after picking up some steam and gaining confidence in the field, he went for a Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy.

After completing his degree, Suraj got a job in Delhi and then came to Kanpur, working in a partnership with a friend before eventually starting his own clinic - Balaji Physiotherapy. He also set a minimal fee that everyone could afford, keeping up with his initial motivation.

Suraj says that Physiotherapy is required after patients have undergone surgery. A physiotherapist's job is to get their bones and muscles seamlessly moving again. This field requires both theoretical and practical knowledge of the subject in depth.

Suraj advises aspiring Physiotherapists to not go for money but they should try and achieve patient satisfaction. He shares that he has participated in several village health camps and has come to the conclusion that people in the village need a physiotherepist’s help and attention the most, as most of them are unaware of the benefits of this rather uncommon field of medicine.

According to Suraj, if you get good sleep, perform yoga/meditation, and keep a correct posture you will stay fit and healthy regardless of your age. He also asserts that the youth must stay away from drugs.
