An architect based in Bangalore, Sumit has journeyed from an ordinary childhood in Nagpur to a successful career. Sumit emphasizes the importance of mentors, living in the present, and pursuing one's passion in any field. He believes that sharing knowledge is essential for personal growth.

Sumit Joshi is based in Bengaluru. He is into architecture. He got his Master’s in Product Design from IIT Bombay. He has been working with 3M as an application development specialist for the past ten years. He is passionate about corporate identity and retail branding.

Sumit says that the preliminary skill required to pursue architecture is that you ought to love to sketch and draw. Furthermore, he says that when we get into a college to pursue it, it is totally different. It is more about a human-centric approach to building spaces, houses, museums, etc. In addition, he says that pursuing architecture transforms you into a holistic individual as it enables you to understand things from the perspective of social and cultural importance.

Sumit originally hails from Nagpur. His childhood was ordinary. He had a middle-class upbringing. Growing up, he did not have many aspirations. He was average in his studies. But he loved being outdoors, playing, and spending time in nature. He would also do mimicry. He would participate in Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, sing, and dance, says Sumit.

Sumit gives his threefold advice to everyone: first, it's always important to have mentors in your life who can guide you and who you can look up to. Second: Always be in the present; worrying about the future serves no purpose. Though you can have a roadmap as to how things are going to progress at your end, Third: No discipline is good or bad; if you love doing what you do, you can excel in it and make money out of it.

Sumit considers his professors to be his role models. Sumit says that the way they used to passionately put things together with regard to teaching the curriculum always inspired him. Besides, he also acknowledges the roles that his parents, wife, and friends play in his life.

Sumit’s favorite quote is “Unless and until you spread your knowledge, you will not get knowledge.”

Talking about the mistakes that he made in his life, Sumit says that making mistakes is a human thing. He doesn’t want to correct his mistakes by going back in time. He thinks that if he corrected his mistakes, he would not move ahead in his career. Though he advises us to minimize the mistakes that we make.

Sumit says that architecture is a great career option. He advises that before choosing a career, one should interact with people who are already in that field to get a better understanding of how things work in the real world. Furthermore, he says that no career option is good or bad. If you’re passionate about it, you can be successful at it.

To unwind, Sumit does yoga, meditation, and pranayama. Doing meditation and pranayama keeps him fresh. Besides, he likes to cook dishes for his family to bring a smile to their faces. He is also learning how to play the guitar.
