With perseverance and hard work, Sumit worked his way up the ladder from a relatively low position at the beginning of his career to the top in a matter of years.

Sumit Jha is the Group General Manager at the GRCL Group, based in Jaipur.

Originally from a village called Baijani in the Bhagalpur district of Bihar, Sumit is currently a resident of Delhi. He completed his elementary schooling in his village itself. He did his Graduation in Commerce with Honors in Accounting. He also earned a three-year Diploma in Hotel Management from IHM, Delhi which he completed in 1995.

After completing his studies, Sumit started off small in the hotel sector in 1996 as a cashier and front desk assistant. But the Delhi culture of  ‘never-looking-back’  inspired him to keep going, and after acquiring some experience, he went from assistant to supervisor to manager in just two years. In less than ten years, he advanced through the ranks, taking over as head of a unit. For six years, he held the position of Vice President in a multinational corporation in the hotel sector, and is now heading the GRCL group as a Group General Manager.

Recalling his difficult times, Sumit states that he had to work part-time to manage the numerous financial issues through which he underwent between 2007 and 2010. In addition to working on holidays, he also worked as a part-time visiting faculty member at the Delhi Air Hostess Academy, where he used to deliver lectures on hospitality.

Talking about his achievements, Sumit states that one of his greatest successes is the knowledge and expertise he gained while working at the Sheraton Hotel and Resort, one of the most renowned hotels in Udaipur.

When asked about his role models, Sumit says he draws his inspiration from his father. He adds that his father, a bank manager, was the only earning member of their joint family of 21 people. His father taught him how to be a good leader and how to achieve his objectives without grumbling.

He got inspired by the quote "Shoot for the moon; even if you miss, you'll land among the stars,", which motivated him to pursue his professional goals.

Advising those interested in a career in hotel management, Sumit guides them to be extremely focused and not be hesitant to put in a lot of hard work in the initial years. He assures that your efforts will be duly acknowledged and rewarded.

He also encourages the youth to get a good education and use their skills and knowledge to contribute to the growth and development of our country.
