Artist Sumar has represented his family’s legacy of Rogan art at the state and national level. He carries creativity and imaginative skills in his blood.

Sumar Daud Khatri is a master artist who comes from a family of Rogan artisans. He belongs to the seventh generation of artists from his family who have been carrying this art forward.

Discussing his artistic profession, Sumar shares that Rogan art is made with castor oil, which is heated for two days and then cooled down. He adds that the substance gets transformed into a jelly, which is why it is called Rogan. Sumar shares that "Rogan" is a Persian word that means "oil-based."

Talking about his childhood, Sumar shares that his family's financial situation was not good and that he had to work for a meagre amount from an early age. He laments the fact that he was not able to pursue his studies.

About his accomplishments, Sumar mentions that the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, presented the then-President of the United States, Barack Obama, with a memento titled "Tree of Life," which was created by his family.

In his spare time, Sumar refers to new designs and takes inspiration from them. He urges everyone to not let this art go unnoticed and promote it as much as possible. Sumar also informs people of fake products being sold in the name of Rogan art.
