A vocal music mentor, Suman is providing training in singing and dancing online and offline through her own academy. She believes in Karma and Destiny.

Suman Sudha Mishra is the chief mentor and co-founder of Bollywood Music and Dance Academy in Mumbai.

Suman hails from Orissa and currently resides in Mumbai.

Talking about her journey, Suman says that music was introduced to her life at the age of seven by her father. Her father wanted her to learn Hindustani classical music, so her musical journey started in Orissa. She is the first-generation singer in her entire household. She started her musical education at Kala Vikas Kendra in Cuttack. Her mentors gave her a chance to perform bhakti songs and group songs at different temples. She also got various opportunities at her school to participate in inter-school competitions.

Her journey got discontinued for some time when her father was posted in Nagaland. Later, her father admitted her to a Kathak dance academy, and she continued with it for four years. She was not interested in dance, but due to Kathak, she learned more about the Taalas, an important part of classical music.

Suman shares that her inspiration is her father. Her parents worked hard and made various sacrifices for her to progress in the field of music. Her father tried hard to provide her as much exposure as possible with the very limited resources that he had. He also gave importance to academics along with music to enhance her daughter’s personality.

Sharing her experiences, Suman says that she did her post-graduation in Journalism because her father wanted her to move forward in the field of writing along with music. She faced many challenges in performing the two roles simultaneously. She says that Hindustani classical music needs a lot of dedication, and music is one of the toughest subjects to learn. She began her career with Indian Express as a journalist covering celebrities. She worked on Page three reporting for six to seven months, but then she switched to property journalism.

But she realised that field work takes too much time, and she didn’t get the proper time for her music riyaz.  Gradually, she came into the field of finance editing. She got recognition at her company and reached the peak of her career with a company where she was heading the research cell in the editorial department as a vice president. That time she was also blessed with a baby, and with the support of her husband, she decided to start her own academy. At her institute, she has students in the age group of 3 to 80 years.

Suman says that the result of hard work is always positive. She believes that success requires consistency, hard work, and perseverance. She also believes in the cosmic forces of karma and destiny. It is important to focus on hard work instead of results. If you focus on sowing the seeds of your dreams with determination, you will definitely reach your destination, she says.
