Subhash Sharma is a Professor and Programme Coordinator at PAHER University. He heads the Pacific School of Law at the University.
Subhash hails from a small village in the Nagaur district and lived in a joint family. He received his primary education from his village school itself. He did his BA from Bangur Government College, Bhilwara. He shares that he always wanted to learn English but never took any classes for it and learned it on his own. However, he took coaching for other subjects and developed reading habits. He remembers scoring just 42 percent in his MA Previous in English Literature as he was not able to understand the subject, but he didn't lose hope and studied hard and scored an aggregate of 58 percent in his MA, which was commendable. Even today after teaching for 28 years, he still aspires to learn more, even if it is from his students.
Subhash says that he belongs to a disciplined and educated family, and he is the fourth in his family to become a professor. Apart from teaching as a professor, he is also a soft skills trainer. His role is to groom and develop the students’ capabilities. He instils those skills in his students, which help them justify their capabilities, especially at the time of placement, and enhances their communication and behavioural skills.
Talking about his achievements, Subhash says that he got his first job as an English teacher at the age of 22, and during his tenure, he never taught his students from a book as he had memorised every poem and chapter of the curriculum. Many of his students would appreciate him for his deep understanding of the subject and would be influenced by him, which was like an achievement for him.
Sharing about his challenges, Subhash says that his journey from an English teacher to a soft skills trainer was challenging for him. When he joined INC in Udaipur, he knew nothing about soft skills at the time. But was fortunate to be selected to receive the training in ICFAI in Hyderabad. He was fifth among all 97 trainees during the one and a half-month training. Today, he is known as one of the best soft skill trainers. He tries to do the best that he can for his family and society.
When asked about his role models, Subhash says that he is influenced by his cousin brother, J.P. Sharma, who was also the vice chancellor of a university. He feels fortunate to have the support and faith of his parents. He learned to be disciplined from his father and passionate and sincere from his mother. He also drew inspiration from the life of Swami Vivekananda.
If given a chance to travel back in time in a time machine, Subhash would like to relive his college days. He would enjoy those days with a learning attitude once again.
Advising the students, Subhash says that one should pursue what they are passionate about and really want to do in their lives. Do not feel pressured by your parents' opinions, and make them understand your interests. To all the parents, he advises them to give their children freedom to choose and support them in their decisions.
