Subash Singh hails from an agricultural background. He shifted to Udaipur city for better education for his kids. His forefathers owned Havelis in Udaipur city that were being used as schools by the government. He started his business in 1996 after struggling for two years to vacate, renovate, and refurbish a haveli from a school to a hotel.
Subhash tries his best to retain the cultural and authentic Mewari atmosphere in his haveli to attract tourists. A major part of his customers is foreign tourists who love to explore the culture and narrow lanes of the city. Therefore, he focuses on being engaged with the tourists to answer their various queries. He tries his best to give a memorable experience to tourists who come to his hotel from around the globe.
Subhash belongs to a family of learned men, where his grandfather was an Ex-Chief Justice. Hence, he got the opportunity to study in Jaipur as well as in Udaipur. Then, due to some reasons, he shifted back to his village and contested for political elections. He became the sarpanch and then a pradhan. Hence, he has political connections and exposure as well.
Subhash transformed his forefathers’ Havelis into a modern-day traditional space with the help of his brother. His brother used his experience in the travel and trade industry to provide valuable and practical inputs for the refurbishing of the space. “Atithi Devo bhava” is the main motto that Subhash practises in his business. He is an honest man who believes in honesty and sensible commitment in any business.
In his view, the support and advertising by the government for the hotel industry is good, but it can be better. He thinks that the history, culture, and struggles of Indians are historically beautiful aspects that can be put forth by the heritage hotels in a practical manner.
He advises optimism, a can-do attitude, strong will, and honesty to the young and aspiring hoteliers. Furthermore, his list of achievements includes being President of both the Hotels Association of Udaipur and the South Rajasthan Organisation. He feels that the associations not only help in the resolution of problems but also facilitate the marketing of the hotels.
During the corona pandemic, he had to let go of some of his staff, shut down his business for some time, and hope for good days. In the current times, he is back into the business and resuming with a calculated number of staff.
Subhash Singh Ranawat feels that leadership develops with time and strength. He likes to contribute to political and social services or meditate via mantra chanting during free time. If given a chance, he wishes to time travel back to his childhood and live back in the carefree days.
