A professional footballer from Kolkata, Subhadip Goon began his journey as a cricket enthusiast but later transitioned to football, fueled by his proximity to the Salt Lake Stadium. Despite serious injuries, he persevered and now plays for Tollygunge Agragami Football Club, having led the team in the Kolkata Football League.

Subhadip Goon is a Professional Footballer based in Kolkata.

Subhadip was born and raised in Kolkata, completing his schooling at Calcutta Hariyana Vidya Mandir and graduating from Techno India University, Kolkata.

Reflecting on his school days, Subhadip Goon recalls being an avid cricket player, representing his institution in various competitions. Growing up near a large stadium, he was always drawn to sports, playing gully versions of almost every game with his friends. He fondly remembers visiting Salt Lake Stadium with his grandfather and playing late into the night, only to face his mother’s scolding. Known for his mischievous nature, his parents were frequently called to the school regarding his behavior.

Despite his love for cricket, Subhadip was equally passionate about football. Living across the Salt Lake Football Stadium, one of the largest in Asia, he grew up watching famous players, which ignited his interest in the sport. His talent shone through when he was awarded the Best Player award at a school football tournament, leading to his selection for the nationals and subsequent participation in SAI tournaments. At the age of 17-18, he received an offer from Mohammedan Sporting, a top-level Kolkata football club, marking the beginning of his professional journey. Despite numerous challenges and injuries, he persisted and now plays for Tollygunge Agragami Football Club, having previously led the team in the Kolkata Football League. He also spent several years playing for Chennai FC.

Subhadip Goon acknowledges that his path was far from smooth, as an athlete’s life demands immense discipline and resilience. He endured serious injuries in his back, knees and groin, each requiring up to a year of recovery. However, his unwavering passion and love for football kept him going, providing the motivation he needed.

When it comes to role models, Subhadip Goon places his faith in God, finding inspiration in the words of the Bible to chase the best version of himself. One of his most memorable achievements was playing alongside Franky Barreto. He also values the support and camaraderie of his friends, many of whom are excellent footballers.

Advising aspiring footballers, Goon emphasizes the importance of passion, vision, and taking good care of one’s body. He acknowledges the plethora of platforms available today to launch a football career but stresses the need for dedication and hard work.

Subhadip Goon believes that education is more important than experience, though a combination of both yields the best results.

If given a chance to revisit his past with a time machine, he wouldn’t change a thing about his life, remaining a sports person every time despite his childhood dream of becoming a pilot.

Reflecting on the impact of COVID, Subhadip Goon says he saw it as a bitter lesson but also a time of learning. He believes that people are now more grateful for their lives and have become more considerate.

Quoting Zlatan Ibrahimović, Subhadip says, “If you are your own competition and if you find the courage to get up every day and fight, the battle is already yours.”

Subhadip Goon’s story is one of resilience and passion, demonstrating that with dedication and a love for the game, challenges can be overcome. His journey from a mischievous child playing gully sports to a professional footballer inspires aspiring athletes to pursue their dreams with unwavering determination.
