Subal Sharda is the Director of Kala Astitva.
Subal hails from Delhi. Recalling his childhood, he says that he was not exactly a studious kid and was more interested in extracurricular activities. Waiting for his twelfth results, Subal began working at CCD after his exams. He went to Kolkata to his grandmother’s place after his results and began studying Fine Arts.
Due to some financial issues, Subal had to leave his BFA studies incomplete and return to Delhi. There he joined a music studio, as he had studied classical music in his childhood. He learned how to use musical equipment and started DJing in clubs, etc. After DJing for twelve years, he left the profession due to its decreasing popularity. He then got to know about a group called Delhi Street Art and joined it to feed his artistic hunger. He did many street art projects with the group, they even did street art in Prayagraj for the Kumbh Mela.
Subal later started his own art company to give his artistic ideas a broader platform to flourish. He also organised an art event on his birthday in 2017, which introduced him to many well-known artists of the city.
Talking about his mistakes, Subal says that his habit of procrastination held him back from progressing for many years. He says that it was his biggest mistake and has taught him many lessons in life.
Subal is grateful to his mother for having invested such time and money in teaching him music. He is also grateful to his mentor, from when he was working at the music studio, who not only taught him music but about life as well.
Advising budding artists, Subal tells them to be yourself and understand that learning art is a never ending process. He further says that when in a dilemma or feeling out of ideas you should go out and observe the world and you shall get many creative ideas. He also advises the youth to take care of their mental health.
Sharing his life mantra, Subal says that ‘Kala Astitva’ or the existence of art is his life mantra.
