Starting dancing at a very young age, Sruti grew up and became a renowned Odissi exponent. She feels that it is important to spread and explore our traditional art.

Sruti Swyamsiddha is an Odissi dancer and teacher at Symbiosis Dance & Music Institute in Kolkata.

Sruti feels blessed that her parents involved her in this classical dance form when she was very young. She believes that, along with devotion, this dance form has beauty and grace, and it also inspires her a lot.

Recalling her childhood, Sruti says that she was born and brought up in Kolkata. She completed her graduation in Mass Communication and Journalism. She received a master's degree in Odissi from  Rabindra Bharati University. Currently, she is also pursuing a certificate course in dance therapy.

Talking about her journey, Sruti says that she started learning dance at the age of four under her guru, Late Giridhari Nayak, and then she also learned from Sujata Patra. She feels blessed to have trained under her two gurus, as they have always supported and motivated her. Slowly and gradually, she started performing on the stage. She says that in her journey, she faced many challenges, but she never gave up and was always ready to find a solution to any problem that arose.

Sharing her achievements, Sruti says that at the age of eleven, she got a scholarship from the government of India. She was the winner of Miss New Year 2023. She also got The Telegraph Excellence Award in Odissi. She was also honoured by the Urban Development Minister in Kolkata. She has also been invited for lecture demonstrations at different universities. She got the Natyaveda, Gopi Krishna Award, and National Scholarship in this field.

Sruti shares that Odissi is a classical dance form of Orissa, which is the place of Lord Jagannath. The beginning of this classical dance was in the temples of Odisha, where the devadasis used to dance in front of Lord Jagannath. Then, eventually, it came to the audience as a source of entertainment and is now spreading worldwide.

Sruti’s role model is her mother, as she learned a lot of determination and courage from her.

Advising aspirants to her field, Sruti says that it is important to have the determination and dedication to learn classical dance. Willpower, consistency, and deep knowledge are required in any field to master it. Try to maintain a proper balance in life by dividing your time as per the requirements.

Sruti says that both education and experience play an important role in every aspect of life.

If given a time machine, Sruti would like to relive the travel journeys with her family. She also would like  to enjoy that moment again when she came to know about being selected for the Junior Scholarship at the age of ten.
