Driven by her love for theater, Sreya became a theater artist but her career was doomed for some time due to her fickle-minded attitude towards work. She made her comeback with a positive mindset and very quickly made her place in web series and movies of veteran directors.

Sreya Bhattacharyya is a Kolkata-based Actor and Theater Artist.

Sreya was born and raised in North Kolkata. She shares that no one in her family had ever been into the field of acting and had nothing to do with it. Never did she ever think of making a career out of this field up until she attended a theater workshop in 12th std in her school. Ever since she became obsessed with becoming a theater artist. Soon she joined Kolkata’s most popular theater called ‘Nandikar.’ She performed on stage for five years before appearing on the screen.

Sreya’s plays and theater performances started garnering a lot of appreciation and soon, she got an opportunity to work in a Bengali web series. Shortly enough, she got to work with award-winning filmmakers and went on to work with bigwigs in the industry.

Recalling her childhood, Sreya says, as a child, she was a shy kid and her parents were always supportive of her. She says that she was introduced to theater, literature, and music during her school days only but till her eighth grade, she never performed on stage. But later, these activities captivated her attention and she jumped into the field of theater.

Talking about her role models, Sreya says her co-actor Damini Basu has been her biggest inspiration for being her friend, philosopher, supporter, and guide throughout her acting journey and helping her reach where she is today. She also draws inspiration from actor Sohini Sengupta, her parents, friends, directors, mentors, and senior artists.

Describing her struggles, Sreya says that till the time her father felt that she was doing theater for fun, he supported her fully. But, when he came to know that she is serious about theater and sees her career in it, their relationship turned sour, which was quite difficult for her to tackle. Besides, her fickle-minded attitude towards work such as being playful, making friends, having fun with them, and eventually her procrastination made her stumble a lot in her career.

Sharing her lockdown experience, Sreya says that her professional career suffered a lot during the pandemic. She was not even able to crack any new auditions which created a huge turmoil in her head. She believes that she wasted most of her time doing useless things at home and she deeply regrets it.

Sreya advises all the budding actors that to bring perfection to your work, you must know how to wear a specific character and live every emotion of it and you will see your acting career going uphill at a faster pace.
