Sreejata Thakur is a Nutrition and Fitness Coach at FITTR. She has been in the fitness industry for the last four years and has been coaching people for the last two and a half years.
Sreejata says that she entered FITTR as a client and not as a coach. She did not have any idea about coaching and fitness. Before that, she was just a mother who had gained weight post her delivery. She was 88 kgs before entering FITTR and the only thing she wanted was to lose a few kgs and be fit. While going through the regime at FITTR for herself, she eventually got a hang of it and started learning about fitness. She completed all the courses with certifications and made it to becoming a Basic Coach and then a Standard Tier Fitness Coach.
Recalling her childhood, Sreejata says that she had a typical Bengali household childhood where the girls were given a lot of attention when it came to cultural activities. However, physical fitness was something which she was never exposed to as a child. She says that she never played any sport, she never did any physical activity or anything that even comes close to a fitness activity. However, her mother used to be extremely strict regarding the food regime that included a lot of fruits, vegetables, fish, and other protein-based food items. Therefore, when she came to the fitness field, she had a rock solid base of nutrition due to her childhood, says Sreejata.
Sharing about her fitness journey, Sreejata says that the journey has been quite a roller coaster ride. She says that she was married to a soldier, and they used to shift to different places quite frequently. She had to start her fitness journey from scratch every time she had to shift her home. Also, being a mother, it becomes more difficult as the fitness part always comes post-family. However, sooner or later she understood that if she would not take care of her own health, she won’t be able to take care of her surroundings. And this realization somehow changed a lot of things in her, and she started prioritizing the things for herself.
Sharing her experiences, Sreejata says that it is very important to fuel your body with the right nutrition. She says that rather than cutting down on the food you eat, you should know the right things to be consumed to be fit and healthy. She says that along with proper food intake, one needs to balance so many things in life to see proper results of their efforts.
Talking about her accomplishments, Sreejata says that accomplishments do not equate to materialistic things for her. She says that when she started her fitness journey, she did not have any idea about what to do. However, when she started working at the backend of FITTR, she realized that people need the guidance that she lacked during her fitness journey. And providing people with the correct guidance and support is a real achievement for her. She says that gaining trust and a human connection with her clients is an accomplishment she really cherishes.
Speaking about her role models, Sreejata says that her mother is her role model for her health and fitness. She says that her mother installed the food discipline in her since her childhood and she never exposed Sreejata to any junk food. Further, her FITTR coaches are also her role models.
In her free time, Sreejata loves spending time on her Instagram account. Also, she loves indulging in art and craft activities like painting, drawing, sketching, and playing with colors.
Talking about mental stress, Sreejata says that stress has never been a big issue for her as she is also a certified Yoga Instructor. She says that yoga has helped her change her mindset, and she is able to keep calm and relaxed. She says that she practices yoga daily, which helps her avoid stress. A long peaceful walk, and avoiding any stressful situation at that particular moment, and waiting for the right time for doing anything is her way of staying away from stress.
Sharing her life mantra, Sreejata says that she closely follows the phrase, “never give up”. She says that there will be situations, there will be people, atmospheric issues, ups and downs in life, but people should learn to nurture themselves, learn self-love. Doing this will help a person manage everything that life throws on them.
Sreejata says that she has written and published a book named “Twenty One Days of Awesomeness”. She says that the book is for the people who are going through a mentally hassled way of life that is hampering their physical life in ways that they feel out of control, or not being able to solve or strategize things.
Sreejata says that her life mantra is, “If you can run then run, if you can walk then walk, if you can crawl then crawl; but never stop doing the right things in the right way.”
