The seeds of environmental activism were sown in Sourav’s mind, and,realizing the importance of our nature and wanting to ensure resource availability for generations to come, he works for the same.

Sourav Dutta works in the area of environmental sustainability, awareness and action. He brings together the youth from different universities to work towards this important cause, which is often ignored in today’s times.

Sourav came up with the idea of environment conservation during his bachelors, having identified his belongingness and urge towards nature and the environment. He is currently pursuing his Master’s in Ecology, Society, and Sustainability Development from MIT Pune.

When asked about his role model, Sourav says that Dr. Rajendra Shende, one of the UNEP directors, shaped his career and inspired him to work towards environmental sustainability. Sourav was also mentored by one of his university professors on the environment and renewable energy sources.

Sourav was born and brought up in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. He spent his childhood there, where he also witnessed the degradation of the environment in his city. The pathetic scenario prompted him to do something, and his opportunity further opened up when he decided to come down to Pune. Sourav says that one ought to be proactive, sincere, consistent, and dedicated to make a positive impact on society.

Speaking about his challenges, Sourav says that in a world dictated by doctors and engineers, it was a difficult call for him to convince society and his family as to what he wanted to do. His transition from commerce to environmental sustainability was not easy either, but his urge and curiosity to make things better landed him here.

In his message to young climate activists, Sourav says that climate activism needs to be backed by scientific understanding and study conducted by research experts.

In his free time, Sourav takes up his camera and binoculars to go into nature, capturing beautiful trees, butterflies, and birds. He urges everyone to get along with people and take initiatives to turn their small actions into considerable ones.
