Sourabh went to Mumbai to do his graduation in Journalism, but he did not quite like the field when he entered into a job in it. Then he started working in the Film Industry and experienced the struggles of living in Mumbai city first hand.

Sourabh Jain hails from Nimbahera, Chittorgarh. He is a filmmaker by passion and profession.

Sourabh spent his childhood in his home town, Nimbahera. It was a carefree period of his life. He would play with his friends. There wasn’t any pressure on him to perform academically well. He would participate in school street plays and skits and this eliminated stage fright in him.

Sourabh says that his interest in filmmaking is not very old. After completing his graduation in Journalism, he started working in the media industry, but did not quite like his job. Then he came in contact with camerapersons at Zee News, Mumbai and started assisting them. Later he came back to Nimbahera and started his production house.

Talking about challenges he faced when he started his production house, Sourabh shares that initially, he took cameras and other equipment on rent. He found it challenging to create his own team of cameramen and editors and other assistants. He says that he would look whether the cameraman hired knew photo and video editing as well. He also found it challenging to hire a good music composer for his filmmaking. But he says that during his time competition was not that much as it is today. He also says that had there been more competition he would have done better in his filmmaking business.

Sourabh says that it’s not easy to survive in small cities like Udaipur with your filmmaking business. You don’t easily get producers here unlike Mumbai and other big cities. He did other work too to generate more income. He maintained the media cell of a political party during elections. Besides, he also does civil construction work on contracts.

Sourabh doesn’t consider anyone as his role model. He says that his experiences in life have taught him a lot. Besides, he takes out the good qualities of people and learns from them.

Sourabh says that he was a very egoistic kid in school. But when he went to Mumbai for his graduation, he had to set aside his ego. He says that though he belonged to a good family in Udaipur, he would get just enough money for his studies and survival in Mumbai. His other classmates would splurge money on parties and food and looking at them he too wanted to fulfill his desires but money was a constraint at his end.

He shares that on one occasion he went to an event and worked as a waiter there. He found this task so menial considering the class of  the family he came from. He was even asked to collect the tissues littering around and put them into trash. For a moment, it hurt his ego but he did it anyway. This taught him that if he wanted to survive in Mumbai then he would have to keep his ego aside and not consider any task as menial. Later this lesson helped him in his filmmaking work too, when he would be asked to do any task.

Sourabh is into writing dialogues for films. He takes inspiration from Kader Khan for his dialogues in films.

Sourabh says that for him success is not about reaching the destination rather it’s about enjoying the journey.

If he could go back in time and undo something, Sourabh would want to discontinue his studies after his 10th std, as he believes that whatever he studied thereafter did not matter much in his life. And instead he would want to straight away go to Mumbai and work as an Assistant Director with a known Film Director there to be in a better position today.

To aspiring people who want to work in Film Making and Production, Sourabh advises that whatever you do be it writing scripts or dialogues or any other work, you must learn to operate a camera parallely.

Besides his work, Sourabh likes to spend time with his friends which helps him relieve the stress of his work too.
