Sonia Tamrakar is a working professional who feels that we should never regret any decision of ours as every step that we take in life teaches us a life lesson.

Sonia Tamrakar is from Bhopal. Her father was a Civil Engineer and used to get transferred a lot. For that reason, Sonia got a chance to do her schooling in Durgapur, West Bengal. She says that it was a very different experience and she even got to learn Bengali.

Sonia says that she was from the Science field but decided to go into a very different field and did her Masters in Hotel Management in Mangalore, Karnataka. It was a very different industry and being a Gold Medalist in her academics, she got her first opportunity to work at Taj Hotels. She says that it was a great learning experience. She then joined Marriott Hotel in Mumbai and worked there for eight years.

Sonia says that she was even selected for a training program by Marriott which was taking place in Kuala Lumpur. She was the only Indian representing Marriott India. It was a great achievement that still gives her goosebumps.

Sonia then pursued her MBA while working and decided to go into the corporate field. It was then when she joined G4S Secure Solutions Services in Gurugram. Before Covid, she was working as a Fields Sales Manager and now is working as an Accounts Manager at the company.

Sonia says that along with sharing our success stories we should also share our failures in detail because that is the part which has all the learning. People can take guidance from those failure stories and mistakes and will avoid making them in their own lives.

Sonia shares that she used to play Cricket in her college days and wanted to make a future in it. However, because of a lack of support from her family she had to drop that idea. She regrets that she could not pursue sports in her life.

Sonia feels that we should not compare ourselves with others and not ignore the beauty of our own life.

Sonia says that throughout her life, her Role Models have continuously changed. In her childhood, she used to look up to her sister who was great in her studies. As she grew, her mother became her Role Model. In Taj, she met Ajai Kalluri, who taught her many things like communication skills and how to present oneself to the guest. He instilled in her the confidence she was lacking to succeed in this field. She is also inspired by Mother Teresa and has also opened a school in her village to do her bit for society.

Sonia says that in any field in the service sector, the most important thing is to ‘Listen’. She says that it is necessary to understand your customer and respond most politely.

Sonia urges everyone to take out at least an hour every day for themselves and do whatever they like the most. She says that doing this is imperative for better mental and physical health.
