Sonal’s passion to work for the upliftment of women in society led her to become an advocate. She has been working in this field for several years now and has helped thousands of women.

Sonal Joshi is an advocate and a social activist. She is also a Marriage Counselor.

Sonal belongs to Gujarat.

Recalling her childhood, Sonal says that they used to live in a village, and her father was a cook in a hospital. Her childhood was spent in extreme hardships. Her mother has been a great emotional support for her and has always encouraged her.

Sharing about her journey, Sonal says that when she was small, she saw many cases of domestic violence. Many women are harassed and cannot live a normal life. She remembers that after the demise of her grandfather, her grandmother was forced to go bald. She always wanted to do something for the welfare of women, for which she chose to become an advocate.

Her father was against her studies and wanted her to get married. She was locked in her room by her father and was not allowed to turn on the lights. She used to study under street lights. Fortunately, she got the guidance of her teachers, who gave her tuition without charging any fee. She was working part time after her 10th grade and started doing a full-time data entry job after her school.

Meanwhile, she also completed her graduation. She was fascinated by the fields of Law and Journalism. She was herself a victim of domestic violence, and came out of her abusive marriage. She actively engaged in social work and decided to pursue law and journalism. She has struggled a lot in her journey but feels satisfied to have helped thousands of women. She has also done Oracle DBA and given lectures at US colleges.

Sonal shares that she does not support corruption and takes cases that she finds genuine. She has never worked for the sake of money. In addition to advocacy, she is also a social activist.

Talking about her mistakes, Sonal says that she wanted to study more seriously but could not because of family pressure. She could not spare more time due to her job.

Sharing about her achievements, Sonal says that she has received 117 different awards until now. She has received an Honorary Doctorate from an American university in Law and Social Sciences. She has given lectures at different universities around the world as a visiting faculty member. She has engaged herself in social work and aspires to make a contribution to the betterment of society.

When asked about her role models, Sonal says that her mother and grandmother are her biggest inspirations in life.

Sonal’s life mantra is to help others and bring about a positive change in society.
