Snigdha Das is a senior faculty at the Vidya Bhawan Research Center, Udaipur. She has been working with students and helping them with their research for the past twenty-five years.
She completed her graduation and post-graduation in Zoology and did her M.Phil in Ujjain.
Snigdha was born and brought up on the IIT, Kharagpur campus. Her father was a professor at IIT Kharagpur while her mother was a gold medalist in botany.
Remembering her childhood, Snigdha says she was a privileged child to be born into such an educated family which gave her a great upbringing. She says in her five-member family, her grandmother used to tell her stories, her father taught her mathematics, and her mother taught her languages. She and her younger brother were sent to a convent school, and then she completed her school education at Kendriya Vidyalaya. At her home, she had many books and musical instruments to learn music. She also learned to sing and dance from her mother at a very young age. She also cherishes celebrating Holi on the IIT Kharagpur campus and feels as if those moments and colors of Holi made her life brighter and more radiant.
Snigdha shares that her career started with Professor Harswaroop, who is well-known across the world for his pioneering research work in the developmental biology field. She was given the opportunity to write scripts for zoology-related UGC programs like Freshwater Ecosystem and Reservoir Ecosystem. She also worked with a Madhyapradesh-based NGO, Eklavya. She enjoyed their teaching pedagogies and research work. She has a great profile of working for various reputed organizations and institutes in different states.
Speaking about her achievements, Snigdha says she was honored with two gold medals during her M.Sc.
Snigdha says she is fond of reading in her spare time and loves spending time reading her favorite books. She also enjoys dancing, singing, and playing indoor games.
As a role model in her life, Snigdha looks to her mother, who supported and encouraged her at every stage of life.
The quote which she finds very compelling is, “Bridge the gender divide." Snigdha says it reminds her of Kamla Bhasin’s saying, which is, “Feminism is not anti-men. It is anti patriarchy.” She feels our girls deserve equal opportunities and respect to reclaim their role in society as it was in ancient times.
